Do you know what the class size is in your zoned public school?
We just moved to Fairfax County in VA, right outside of DC. Class sizes are typically 25+ kids. In kindergarten, there is an aide but after first grade, there is only one teacher.
I don't remember my classes being that large. My memory is fuzzy though. I went to school in Port Washington in LI. I thought my classes were pretty small.
How large is the class size in your school?

What was acceptable when we were kids is no longer the norm. Budget cuts = higher class size

Every school district is different and has to do with the teachers contract at the time. In our district, it is divided by grade. For example K-2 the max is 27 while grade 3-4 is 29. Usually it is not that high but unfortunately this year it will be that high due to budget cuts. Technically, they can go over the max by 1 student, then for every child after that, the teacher gets a stipend. Again, this is just in my district in Suffolk County, Long Island.
