My family will be out this evening when the kids start to go around so we leave a bowl of candy on a chair outside our front door with a sign. Last year I was worried about 1 or 2 kids who would take the whole bowl but I felt bad not being able to give candy.

I hear my new neighborhood gets NUTS with kids - even at night. I'm going to try to sneak and go home so I can give out candy.
But, I don't think I would leave it out unless I was absolutely not going to be home all day.

I'm proud to report we got home and in the box there was still 10-15 tootsie pops - there was probably 40ish in there to begin with.

I did it today when I took my son out trick or treating. When I came back there was some candy left, along with some different candy.  I guess someone traded candy?

Yes, I did this year, and never again! I didn't think I'd be home right after work, so I left out a plastic pumpkin filled with candy. Well, I had a change of plans and came home earlier than expected around 4)...to an empty plastic pumpkin. I also live down the block from a middle school, and teenagers walk past my house all the time...so I'm sure that had something to do with it. Anyway, wouldn't recommend it.

We do with a sign. The constant ringing of the doorbell makes the dog bark and then the baby cry

I did it today since we went to visit a friend who just had a baby in the hospital.
Candy was all gone when I got home, but there WERE a lot of kids out when we left. So I don't know if one kid took it all or if it was evenly distributed.

I put the bowl out earlier with about 200 pieces of candy in it. When we arrived home about four hours later, it was all gone. In past years, we've only had about 40 kids come. So ... I'm pretty sure ... one greedy kid took everything at some point. Oh well ... it's their conscience they have to live with.

Well, we left the bowl out and DH came home to about half the bags left - he gave out the bags after and we ended up with about ten bags out of 60.
