Re: Do you leave the dryer on if no one is home?
nope... no washer either... last year, we had a situation where i had put the dogs bed into the washer... it was big, but i didn't think much of it... well, something got stuck and luckily DH and i were home and heard it making a loud noise. we go down there, and apaprently the dog bed had gotten stuck and the washing machine was still trying to run and it was burning one of the belts! there was smoke coming out and everything... who knows what would have happened if we hadn't have been in the house to hear it when it first started making noise! dishwasher too- a friend of mine had their dishwasher running and one of the plastic lids from a tupperware container had fallen down to the bottom and started melting while the dw was running... thank god they were home to smell it... i would't leave any of that stuff running when you're not home..

NOOOOO! My Dad is a fireman and I've heard way too many stories of them catching on fire, dishwashers too.
My dad was too and it got drilled into us - I never leave anything on when I leave the house except for a light.

Re: Do you leave the dryer on if no one is home?
Nope, I'm too paranoid.
My mom's dryer was actually sparking because of backed up lint in her dryer. The repair guy told her that this could have caused a fire in her house.

No DH's aunts dryer went on fire last two years ago and luckily she was home or the entire house would have burnt down.
