Do you let your kids out from 12 -3 during the hot days of summer
I am nutso about protecting my DD who is 15mths from the sun but feel like everyone else takes their kids out during the day and are happy enough to do so once they are covered with sunscreen.
I, on the other hand am enforcing a strict no outdoor activity between 12 and at least 3pm during the summer months.
Am I nuts?

I usually don't have Alex out, only because it is nap time. Around 12pm we go in and have lunch then a nap. Otherwise, he is loaded up with sunscreen and out playing.

If it wasn't naptime, we'd be out. (Although trying to find shade because mommy doesn't like the sun!)

We just got back from the park, it was hot but she had sunscreen on, I could not for my own sanity stay in everyday at that time!

Just get a very wide brimmed sunhat and put suscreen on all over before you get the kids dressesd so you know you didn't miss a spot. Enjoy the summer!

That's is pretty nuts. Just dress your child sensibly (brim hats, cool/ comfortable clothing), lather him/her in sunscreen, and when possible, have him play in a shaded area (swingset under a tree, sandbox under an umbrella). Kinda hard to keep the kids indoors on a beautiful sunny day...especially when they start school and have playdates.

Ha Ha racheeeeee my screen name is more true to my persona before DD arrived....way back then I could be on the beach from dawn til dusk....but since my DD arrived I am very wary about the sun for myself and for her....so I can still technically call myself "beachgirl" but not between the hours of 12 and 3

LOL yes, you're a little nuts! but, i come from growing up in a house where my dad literally yelled at us if we weren't outside doing something every second of the day- LOL i think of all the fun times i would have missed out on if i had been stuck inside duirng those hours in the summer! especially when i was older and had friends who wanted to come over and play in our pool, etc.... imo you can only be so careful- you have to live your life, too!

Re: Do you let your kids out from 12 -3 during the hot days of summer
I don't think you're nuts at all. On very hot days, my children were never out during those hours. They are both very fair-skinned and burn easily. Even with sunscreen protection, I never took the chance. I remember the burns I used to get when I was a child and I wasn't letting that happen to them. There was plenty of time before and after to be outside and in the pool. On days like today, I wouldn't have had a problem. It's just during the summer on very hot days.

I could never stay in! We spend our entire summer at the community pool or playing in our yard! They wear sunscreen, and hats and I make sure they drink a lot of water.

No you aren't nuts, you are being concered and careful is all We aren't in the sun all that much, more when we are on the boat but are very careful when we are with sunscreen, hat and sunglasses on DD. I always wear suncreen myself.

We are inside but just because is his nap time. If it wasn't for that, we'd be outside with a good hat and sunscreen lotion that we use anyway in the mornings and afternoons.
