Do you like your handwriting?

It's rare that I need to write something by hand these days, but my handwriting has always been something I've been borderline self conscious about. I wish at 28 there was a way to improve it, but I've had the same handwriting since the 6th grade Chat Icon I doubt there's much I can do about that now.

How about you ... are you happy with your handwriting?

Re: Do you like your handwriting?

My handwriting seems to bother other people more than it bothers me. It is legible but very sloppy looking and very obviously left handed. I get the rudest comments sometimes but then I ask,"can you tell what I was trying to say?" and the answer is yes. People can be annoying!

Re: Do you like your handwriting?

I think I have pretty good handwriting. If I concentrate on what I write, it is excellent. I used to write absent-notes in high school for my friends because my handwriting was do good it looked like something a parent would write Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not a huge fan. I'm not great writing on the board either. Smart Boards are awesome for that...it takes your handwriting and makes it into text.

Re: Do you like your handwriting?

I used to have beautiful penmanship. I would get tons of compliments and it's dorky but I was really proud of it. I loved to write, would practice it, etc.

But several years ago I developed what was thought to be a nerve disorder and now is believed to be focal dystonia aka "writer's cramp." My handwriting got progressively worse to where it is now. I can no longer hold a pen properly; often it goes flying out of my hand. It takes a lot of work to write a simple sentence and it is very upsetting to me. Especially because I am a high school English teacher/SAHM and don't know what I'm going to do when I go back to work. Chat Icon

I don't like mine at all. My younger sister has the worst handwrting I've ever seen. I would never tell her of course.

Are we only talking about cursive? If so, I hate mine-I write like a child. I'm jealous of people with beautiful cursive handwriting. I love the blend of femininity and confidence it exudes.
My print is better. I teach so it's pretty on point when I'm at the board but it's basic with no personality-it looks like the alphabet. When I write a letter, I print but tend to take shortcuts and link some of my letters together.

Do you like your handwriting?

My kids are always asking what I'm writing on the board because my handwriting sucks! I don't really care because, for the most part, people can tell what I'm writing!

Re: Do you like your handwriting?

I have always had terrible handwriting. I hate it. probably actually needed OT as a kid, but it wasn't given as readily as it is now. I can't cut a straight line either, so there are definitely some hand-weakness and visual-spatial issues!

Yes. I have always been pretty anal about having very neat, legible handwriting. It drives me nuts if my handwriting looks sloppy, I will rewrite it! Chat Icon

Re: Do you like your handwriting?

I like my handwriting, both script & print. I get compliments on how clear it is & easy to read.

Credit goes to my mother who when I was a little kid would make me practice my letters over & over & would actually erase it if it didn't look good & make me rewrite it until it was perfect.... I hated it at the time but for that reason, having neat handwriting is natural for me now.

Re: Do you like your handwriting?

I have spectacular handwriting when I try, but I rarely put in the effort and more often than not my handwriting looks like it came from a toddler.

Yes, I am very neat and have great handwriting. Everyone always compliments me on it. And so many people often ask if I went to Catholic school because I have that "catholic school" script.

I rewrite if I think it isn't neat enough and that is why whenever I have to sign a birthday card I get so nervous! I usually write a short blurb to the person, rather than just signing my name. I always feel like if I mess up, there will be NO do-overs! When I was younger I used to be super anal about it and I'd buy a second card as backup. Chat Icon Yeahhhh I don't do that anymore, I just take my time writing it the first time!

It's funny because I meant print - and it just occurred to me that I can't remember the last time I wrote in script! (besides writing my signature of course!)

A quick story- when I was in elementary school we learned cursive in 4th grade and my teacher (who I never liked) said that for the rest of our lives we won't be able to write in print again and how starting in 5th grade it wouldn't be allowed.. I used to get so nervous because I hated writing in script! Well .. I went to 5th grade ... and that teacher never made us write in cursive. Like - ever! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I really wish I had better "cursive writing" education as a kid! We learned it a little in 3rd grade, primarily in 4th, and that was it!
