Do you love your church/house of worship?
DH & I have been searching for a church we LOVE since we moved here nearly three years ago. I think the fact of the matter is that we are not feeling connected to the roman catholic church anymore. Do you attend church regularly? Do you feel a sense of community in your parish?
If you live in Eastern Suffolk, where do you go?

Both DH & I were raised catholic & I had spread out to the born again christian church in my teens. I started attending the United Methodist Church with my former fiance about 17 years ago and I LOVE IT. He has since passed away but I continued to attend. It is very much like a small second family to me. My DH & I were married by my pastor and we go almost every Sunday & DH sings with the choir.

Jodi, that is what we are looking for. More than the same structured prayers every week & that dang basket being passed around. I feel like the catholic chuch just wants money.

Our church still has an offering but what I have always felt about the Methodist church is that you were more than just a # or $$. The people there care about you & realize when you arent there for awhile & and may call to check on you. When I had brain surgery & a stroke, it was just myself & my 15 year old daughter & several woman brought over meals that could be frozen then heated. Just very caring people!!!! Do you have a methodist church near you? you can always just try it out.
ETA: I also think it has some structure to it but not too much like the catholic church.

Re: Do you love your church/house of worship?
We attend a Episcopalian church. They call themselves the Catholic church on lite.
I am Jewish and DH is RC. The RC church near my home treated us terribly when we went. I don't even want to get into the story. But let's say the among many things the priest's comments to me and my belly were inappropriate at best.
Anyways, the Lutheran church didn't bother to call us back and I tried this church. I wanted a church where I could attend with my daughter with out feeling pressured to convert. That I could feel comfortable in participating or sitting back without being stared at or mocked.
This church is like a little family. It's a small congregation of about 200 families. They made and still make such a fuss over my daughter. The baptisms are done as part of regular Sunday service since we are all a family and should all be able to participate. Today they are having a huge superbowl party in the undercroft. They always have events going on. They have breakfast after service almost every Sunday in the winter, spring and fall. Our priest is a riot. He's real and down to earth. His wife was previously married and has children by her first husband. So he makes even my divorced parents feel welcomes (my dad is RC) when he doesn't feel welcomed in his own church.
The church itself is beautiful and old.
Let me know if you want the name though I think it's a little to far from you. But you might want to see if there is an episocipalian church near you.

Re: Do you love your church/house of worship?
I go to a Christian Church in Calverton. I love it because everyone is "real" and its a crowd of people my age. Plus, the music rocks and it's not "Grandma music". The church meets at Riley Avenue school in Calverton. You can check out the website at:
North Shore Christian Church
Feel free to FM me if you have any questions!

i attend Mass every sunday and its a tradition i plan on carrying on with my children. i feel very "complete" when i attend Church and i still feel very much connected to my faith. i go to Church whenever i feel lost or uncertain about my choices in life...i feel better getting my thoughts out there and talking to God. i guess its my therapy! i'm trying to get DH to come with me but he always has an excuse. he's Catholic too but he hasnt attend Mass regularly since he was little. i live in Westbury and am a parishioner with St. Brigid's, i love my Church!

Jodi, that is what we are looking for. More than the same structured prayers every week & that dang basket being passed around. I feel like the catholic chuch just wants money. If you are OK with it, I say visit local churches & check out what the other sects have to offer. Religion is such a personal thing I feel, and I know that tradition states that you take on your parent's religion, but I always felt this was a little archaic. You need to be 100% secure in your faith for it to have any real impact IMO, and to me the best way to know is to explore a little before "settling down" with one congregation. Look in to everything..budhhism, the protestant sects, judiasim, the native american or ancient northern eurpoean religions...everything.
Good luck

Re: Do you love your church/house of worship?
I answered None of the Above I only go to church at this point in my life because I get paid to go there.
BUT...that having been said.....I have attended MANY different churches and I feel the same as you. If I had to make a choice, I would say I like the Lutheran CHurches & the Epsicopalian CHurches best. I say this because they always seem like a"Family" and eveyone knows everyone!!

Re: Do you love your church/house of worship?
I grew up with St. Patricks in smithtown as my second home, youth groups and choir, and all sorts of activities... it was a great place to be as a teenager. The priest that I "grew up with" also came back to St. Pats to marry me. It meant so much to me! I would not consider myself overly religious, but St. Pats was always welcoming and always a place I could be involved...I am glad that my parents chose that church for us

Re: Do you love your church/house of worship?
I go to a christian church in Pt.Jeff... Its amazing- with a live band- lots of praise and worship and an AMAZING minister!
TOTALLY not your reg church- much more relaxed, and you def. get away from your typical hymns and prayers- but the message is still the same KWIM?
Shamefully- I havent been since my son was dedicated/christened about a year ago... Every Sunday I say Im going, and then I dont get outta the house on time.... Such a pathetic excuse
If you want more info- let me know!
