Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

I've never had to pay to attend an Office Holiday party.
At my new job, employees pay their own way. How about where you work?

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

Unfortunatley that's the way things are going today. Gone are the usual company pay parties. Some still do it but most don't.

We have department parties that are partially employee funded. Most of the time the most senior folks split it but there is some employee responsibility.

we have a holiday breakfast each year. although a higher-up orders most of the stuff (coffee, bagels, and juice), we are asked to bring in something (i usually bring in platters of fruit)

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

Yes, we pay every year - we usually have just a basic sit down restaurant meal.
At my old firm, we also paid.

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

Our holiday party got canceled three years ago. Usually the managers of each department buy a holiday lunch to thank the staff..

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

No way. That does not sound like much of a holiday party. Even at the worst times, my past companies held a party at the office. They would never make us chip in. We mostly had big parties at hotels or country clubs.

DH's hospital is having a holiday potluck lunch. I don't know if that counts as "paying".

I now work for a small company and my boss is taking our team out for a nice holiday dinner. We are also hosting one at the office. It will be very casual.

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

No. Our office is actually very generous with the employees. In addition to a fully funded holiday brunch on premises, we also have a luncheon off premises and we do an evening out for the families with the trip based on profit for the year. They also have a fully paid building closure between Christmas and New Year.

On the other hand, Rob said his union called and asked members to bring a dish because 'times are hard'. Funny thing is that my husband has worked a total of 13 months in the last 5 years.. I'd say times are HARDEST for the members..

dH wouldn't have to pay for himself, but he would have to pay for me ($75). Then it's a cash bar. So, unfortunately we cannot afford to go. The cash bar kills it.

At my DH's job the company pays for the holiday party. They have it a Villa Lombardi's every year. I can't imagine making the employees pay for the holiday party, that seems odd to me.

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

DH works for the fed gov't and they don't cover a thing, EVER. They have potlucks for holidays and it actually turns out nice in the end, but I would love to see him taken out to dinner or to not have to cook/bake anything. Oh well.

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

No, i've never had to pay either at my current company or past companies. Previous employer hosted a huge banquet at a Country Club with Lobsters/Champagne. My present company started off with really awesome dinner holiday parties but the past two years it's dwindled down to a really nice "luncheon." DH's company never made them pay but they went from a full Holiday Party including families to employees only to nothing.

Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

we havent had a party in years. The higher ups were asked to contribute and the company picked up a large part of the tab. I miss those parties

Re: Do you pay for your Office Holiday party?

No, we don't pay. It isn't a fancy party but it's a lot of fun. I work at a school so on the last day before the break once the kids leave we all head over to the bar that was booked for the party. There are appetizers and snack foods and open bar for 2 hours. Relaxed and fun and we aren't asked to contribute anything.
