Do you purchase cancellation insurance when travelling?
If so, what did it cover and how much did you pay?
I got an insurance quote for $228 per person. I didn't realize it would be THAT much. Booking for July 06, I am fairly certain we will not have to cancel, but I am just thinking of a situation like a death on the family or serious illness... Any advice?

I dont remember how much ours was but.. when we went to Hawaii we did get it. It was an 8000.00 trip. For an $$$ trip like that I would.

Re: Do you purchase cancellation insurance when travelling?
I encourage my clients to take insurance. It does depend on the type of travel, length of travel, etc on how much the insurance is. I have sene insurance at 100 per person to over 250 per person.
Even though you may not use it, it is still good to have in the event of sickness or death.
We use travelguard as our insurance carrier for travel.
Here is a link for them to help you with any questions for travel insurance.

Re: Do you purchase cancellation insurance when travelling?
On caveat - many companies have a pre existing condition clause - so you have to purchase the insurance within a certain amount of time from booking the trip (some is it 10 days, 14, or 20 depending on the company and plan). This includes pre existing conditions of close family memebers. Just something to keep in mind. But depending on when you travel having the insurance is important if you plan to fly - especially for something like a cruise. We had to cancel a new years cruise a few years ago around 2000 when there was a huge storm that shut down the airports for 2 days - without it we would have been out a lot of money - or on a very shortened cruise - and still been out a lot of money.
If you are looking for travel insurance check out www.insuremytrip.com they compare policies - try to get one that lets you 1) cancel anytime and 2) is one that covers more than just health - such as certain weather delays, etc. Some even have terrorism clauses where you can cancel if there is an act of terrorism anywhere in the world and you don't want to travel.
