Do you save all of DC's art work from school/day care?

DS is bringing home a lot of adorable art and crafts projects from day care, but I don't want to be a pack rat. I can't imagine the amount of stuff that's going to pile up over the years. What types of projects are you saving or how do you decide which ones to keep?

Also, how are you saving them? I have them in a box for now.

We have a chest that was mine, when I was a kid and I put her artwork in there. I save the ones that are really cute or memorable (i.e. yesterday she came home with an index card with a cookie recipe - the teacher asked Alex what she would put in the recipe, so needless to say, what she listed is absolutely HYSTERICAL). Other stuff, like just pieces of paper where she just scribbled during late care, I throw out.

I'm going to keep them in a box I got from the land of nod... it's actually called an "art box"

I saw a home organizer on Oprah once and he had a great idea-- take pictures of your DC's artwork and make photobooks out of them like on Smapfish or whatever. I though that was pretty clever.

A chest or art box sounds like a good idea! I'm going to look into them...

DD started school a month ago, and so far we have saved everything she has done.

It's all on the fridge now, will have to find something to store it in.

I've saved some that I think are really cute / original, or that DD seems especially proud of...but I've had to throw some away...I just can't imagine keeping it all....

I have an art portfolio where I put everything. I have only save the things that I think are really nice or are holiday/sentimental (mother's day, etc...)

No. The amount of paper that comes home with each of them each week is incredible, there is no way to keep it all.

They each have one of these on their doors. They are from Lillian Vernon. I put as much in there as I can each week. Then the next week I get rid of most of it, only keep the things that are really unique.

The stuff I'm keeping from the prior week goes into a Schoolfolio This is what DD's looks like, DS has the blue one.

I don't save most of it Chat Icon

But, in my defense...I only save the things that obviously DD did herself, and I don't save the things that I know she didn't do because it's all pretty and neat Chat Icon Chat Icon

I read somewhere on here (I think) a great idea...which I think I might have to try.

Someone said you should take a picture of all the artwork and make a book of pictures of all the stuff, but don't keep the actual stuff. A photobook takes up much less space!

Re: Do you save all of DC's art work from school/day care?

i have a portfolio for each child for their projects from their preschool. I also have a small bin for each child from when they were in parent/tot class from 1-2yrs old.
i saved alot, but not all art projects. you cant possibly keep them all .
I keep alot of holiday projects, or ones with their little handprints, or ones that my kids were really excited about. i also tried really hard to put the dates on the back if the teachers didnt. Hope this is helpful!

We laminate the really cute holiday decorations and put them with the holiday/seasonal decorations.

So sweet to open the boxes and display their art work from pre-school days.

DS's Godmother gave him an artwork saver for Christmas last year so we are putting most of it in there. I also have a box the bigger projects go into. I save everything. Chat Icon

Re: Do you save all of DC's art work from school/day care?

My DS has only been in preschool since Sept, and last year he and I did a Mommy and Me program together.... and even then, I feel like if I saved EVERY piece of paper with scribbles, I think I'd be on Hoarders or Clean House in a few years! :)

Anyway, I just save the actual "projects". Lots of times he comes home with an art project as well as a couple of pages he just colored on, or did a little scribbling (I guess they have the option to color/draw during free play?), and those I just ditch.

I just use wide flat cardboard boxes to store the stuff, since some of it is kind of an awkward shape or size for folders or portfolios.
