Do you stick up for yourself with your boss? Or do you..
suck it up and be quiet ? Just curious because I see so many people at work keep their mouths shut, but I always say something if I need to . For ex: my boss sent a nasty note in the computer to all the managers,pretty much talking down to all of us ,so in return I wrote a note back telling him not to speak to me that way etc..... but noone else said anything ,they just took/take his crapp.

I'm fortunate to get along very well with my boss, but I tend to voice my opinion a bit too much. Not really at my boss, but at other higher up people. I do it sometimes in a joking, light manner so they get the point of how I feel without having an argument.
Although... I have sent out a bad email here or there too.  Woops!
B/c I get along with my voice I do let her know when I don't agree with something either.

Yes, I do. Academia and laboratory settings especially are known for being not very professional. So I've had it out with my boss

Exactly. I know when to say something, and I know when to just roll with it and let it go in one ear and out the other.
I also have a boss who is a PITA to everyone so I know not to take it personally.
I also always make sure I have a leg to stand on and can back myself up when standing up for myself about issues.
I am a good employee, have gotten excellent reviews at work, but with this economy, I never want to take my chances of doing anything that would give them cause to scrutinize me even more, KWIM?

hmm I was just about to ask this question. Ahole I work for right now loves to jump down peoples throat for the smallest things. I'm fairly new there and he started last week with me and another one of the girls. I shut him right up.
I refuse to be mistreated by an employer.

I get along with my boss for the most part but not always. She can be high strung sometimes. As a result she is moody and snappy. I just have to be on my toes and ready with an answer for her when she gets that way....

Depends on the situation, but I'll usually defend myself or my actions if I feel that I'm being treated unfairly.

I do, but my office relationships are probably very different from a lot of peoples. My boss is very approachable and allows me to vent on things I don't like and offer new ideas on situtations.

Today i realized that my boss doesn't give me a chance to stick up for myself. It is all one sided, and I cannot even explain my actions.This week has pushed me over the edge to finding a new job.

I am lucky - my boss is very respectful of me and my co-workers, so if she has anything negative to say to me it's done in private. If I feel she is being harsh BUT I screwed up, I don't say much, but if I feel I did what I was supposed to do, I defend myself and we can usually figure out a solution together.
