Do you think charting your temp is worth doing?

What are your takes on this?

I have never done it but keep reading about it...so was wondering who does it and if you really see a change in temperature when your ovulating?

Yes... as someone who has been avoiding pregnancy for 20 years temping has helped me to understand my cycle.

YES. My period was all over the place for about 5 months after going on the pill. I originally started temping because I just wanted to have a clue when my AF was coming...and because I knew we wanted to start TTC soon. It has helped me tremendously.

I absolutely think temping is worth it. I have been temping for two months. Believe me, it is a pain to have to get up at the same time each day and take your temperature, but it has given me such an understanding of my cycle. And I find it fascinating. You really do see a temperature shift after O, and your temp really goes drastically back down when AF is coming. Not that I'm happy about it, but I don't even have to take an HPT now b/c I know AF is on her way based on my temp drop.

Try it for a cycle or two and see if it's helpful. Oh, and I found that temping combined with OPK's are the best way to really know when my fertile period is.

I found it very helpful. I didn't do it last cycle because i was monitored by the doctor, but when I did it in combination with cbefm i really was able to time my ovulation.

i would make sure to temp every morning same time, even on the weekends. i would just wake up and take my temp and then go back to sleep.

It helped DH & I get PG. I plan on returning to temping after the little one arrives to keep track of my cycle if for no other reason then to tell me when AF will arrive.

I don't think its worth it unless you are told to by a doctor for fertility reasons. I find having to do something like that every day stressful, and certainly isn't necessary for someone who doesn't have fertility problems. (And I have highly irregular cycles) Sure it works, but so does BDing frequently and that is much more fun.

Thanks for all your opinions, ladies!Chat Icon

I read this in TCOYF. So, now I am thinking about giving it a try.
Being i am irregular... it will still work, right?

I agree with you. It may be fine to refrain from temping in the early stages of TTC, but as you go along and you find that things are not progressing as you may like, temping and charting IS VERY HELPFUL. I, myself was told to to it by my RE. Though disappointing, temping and charting actually clued me in that I was going to have an early m/c before I went to my doctor. I was better prepared for it even though it still s u x.
