Do you think coffee and cake is ok for DH's 30th B-day?

My MIL was going to have a party for him because she had one for BIL & SIL but she has decided that it would be too much for her.

We don't have a lot of $$ and was wondering if cake and coffee with some friends and family over our house is ok.

I would put it on the invite so people know to eat ahead of time

That would be fine. But maybe you could also do some finger foods too- boxed hors duerves, cheese and crackers, Italian sausage, mixed nuts, chips, etc... And I would also have atleast wine at the house.

maybe appetizers and cake and coffee

i think just coffee and cake is not enough for a party.

you can say "please jjoin us for hordourves and desert"

or "cocktails and dessert"

its not that expensive to do a few appetizers - like cheese and crackers, chips and salsa, a hot atrichoke dip and maybe some shrimp cocktail and wings or something

then serve the cake later
