I really want to spend the day with him. It is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. And on Sat we are having his party so I could really use that time to get ready for the party too.

I would take off, not only cause it's his birthday, but to do the last minute things too.

Until my son is in school I will try and take off that day from work! I want to be with him the whole day! Every birthday at the time he was born (1:25pm) I tell him the story of how he came into this world. It wouldn't be the same of I had to do it over the phone!

If you have vacation time to take then take it but if you're over the limit on time off then I wouldn't. I do pre plan to have her actual birthday off.

No, I don't think it's silly at all. I really wanted DH to take off for Sarah's first and second birthdays, but it falls right at the end of the quarter and there are always a few companies he covers reporting earnings, so he has to be in.

Hopefully he can get off for Andy's, it's so close to 4th of July I'm hoping it won't be that busy at work.

I dont' think it's silly at all! I always take off for Michael's birthday (all 2 of them, lol) and I've taken off on Halloween and all those fun little days! Nothing silly about it! Chat Icon

It's your son's 1st birthday. They should let you have the day off for that.

I would - I don't think that's it's unreasonable. Someone said call in sick and that's a fine idea.
