I think it depends upon who it is that wants to know. My friends and I talk about our mortgages all the time because we were all buying homes at about the same time. If it was a stranger or family - other then our parents - then yes, it is none of their business.

My boss always gets in my $ business, how much is your car payment? How much is your rent? and now that we are looking for homes, I see his wheels spinning. Mind your own business!!! If its not family/close friends I think its rude.

it bothers me as much as random people asking how much my e-ring was or how much I spent on my wedding. IMO info like that is private unless you want to tell someone...I don't think people outside my "inner circle" should even consider asking-but they do.
