Do you think the type of bottle matters when it comes to babies holding it themselves?
Xavier can hold his bottle for a short period of time. We have Dr. Browns wideneck and I was wondering if he would be able to hold the normal ones better.

I find the fat ones are a little harder to hold. We use the tall Dr Browns and the Vent Air and they seem to hold them better.

Personally, I don't think it matters.
DS was holding his own bottle at 4 months. We used the Avent bottles with him that are not thin at all.
DD is currently 8 months and has no interest what-so-ever in holding her own bottle. She literally puts her hands back, almost behind her head, while she gets "fed"!
I think no matter what bottle you use, if they want to hold it, they will figure out a way to do it. If they don't, they won't!!!

I don't think so - we used the same bottles for DS and DD. DS never held his bottle, DD is already starting to at 5 months! We use the Playtex Drop Ins.

The only time dd held her bottle was at 11 months when we switched her from the Dr. Browns to the Gerber ones. I do think the Gerber's were lighter and eaiser for her to hold.

Haha...Rylan did the same thing...he never even tried holding it.
Xavier is showing interest so maybe i'll buy 1 to start so I don't waste money.

Re: Do you think the type of bottle matters when it comes to babies holding it themselves?
DS is holding his bottles 90% of the time at 5m, but funny thing is he's guaranteed to hold it start to finish if he thinks I've left the room. If mommy is there, he knows I'll help him, so I sneak a peek from the corner of the room where he can't see me.
He's using the big fat avent bottles, if he really wants to he can hold them. My mom is pushing me to try easier bottles for him to hold. But I don't see an issue.
