do you think there is a connection?

I never really thought about this before , but I was just talking to a friend , she had a mc last week and her sister had a mc yesterday, they both have 2 kids each.
So this friend was saying that most people she knows who have had a mc (missed or not) spotted on and off from the beginning of their pregnancies, she was spotting on and off from the very start of the pregnancy, same with her sister, they both mc, they never had spotting with prior pregnancies and both had happy & healthy pregnancies/deliveries. So based on all of this she thinks that there is some kind of connection between spotting early on and early mc , that even though drs always say spotting is "normal" it's a most likely indication of something going wrong , an early mc.
Then I thought about it and I was also spotting on and off from the day I found out I was pg (I never did with my DD) so were few girls I know , they also ended up mc, most stories I read or most women I talk to with the history of mc had some kind of spotting early on.

Just curious what everyone thinks .

Me neither. I just started to bleed one day and that same day I miscarried. Then when I got pregnant again (2mths after my MC) I started spotting on and off and I am now 6mths along with a healthy boy.

I don’t think there’s a connection. I started spotting/mild cramping at about the exact same time in both of my pregnancies. One was a mc, the other one is progressing well at 20 weeks.

I never spotted at all. I had a missed miscarriage - development stopped around 6.5 weeks but I didn't know until my next appointment at what should have been 10 weeks. Only sign was that my symptoms decreased rather than increasing over those weeks.

I *think* low progesterone can cause a miscarriage and a symptom of that is spotting. there are so many different reasons for mcs and low prog doesnt always cause one. for as many people who tell you they spotted then had a miscarriage, you will find those who spotted and had a successful pregnancy.

for me, i didnt spot and i had a missed mc.

very true, my best friend spotted with all 3 pregnancies and she had healthy pregnancies, no complications, healthy delivery.

I guess what my friend was getting to is that most people she and her sister know who mc had spotting and that's why she thinks one may have something to do with the other (obviously not always, but in many cases in her experience) ... Most girls I know who mc also had the same situation so that's why I kind of thought , hmm, maybe, maybe not....

Re: do you think there is a connection?

personally, i think spotting is a good sign..i had implantation spotting before BFP and regular spotting up to 8weeks.. the way it was explained to me was the bleeding is from the embryo is burrowing/implanting deep into your uterus..

with my DS i spotted up to 8weeks and i had a normal pregnancy. i got pregnant again in august with no implantation bleeding or spotting at all and miscarried at 11/12 weeksChat Icon

This is what happened to me. I was almost 12 weeks and I went for the screening test and there was no heartbeat.
