do you think this is mean?? dh doesnt agree with me.

yesterday we had our dd's 4th bday party. she got tons of toys and clothes etc. but she got a doll she already received last christmas. the doll is not expensive and instead of trying to return it, i wanted to give it to toys for tots. do you think thats unfair to the person that bought it for her?? or for dd for losing out on a bday gift??. please let me know. tia.

i think it's a great way to pass on a gift that your DD does not need.

No, I think it's a great idea and a great opportunity to show your DD how to be charitable.

I think it's a good idea to donate it. I've done that with gifts that DS has received that he already has.

I don't think it's mean at all. In fact you are doing something very nice by giving it to Toys for Tots. I don't see it as a big deal especially if the doll was inexpensive. It's going to good use, I'd rather do that than return it or throw it away.

Giving it away to someone who can really use it is a very nice thing to do. Especially at a time like this with the Holiday Season Starting.

I think it is a great idea. You can make another child happy with that gift that your DC already has. Like they say "Pay It Forward".

Re: do you think this is mean?? dh doesnt agree with me.

thanks everyone. my dh made a big deal saying so and so wanted to get our dd a gift its not fair to them that your giving it away without trying to return it and find something for our dd. but you girls are all correct.i am going to talk to dd today and let her know that not all kids get toys on christmas and ask her if she wants to give her doll to a lil girl that doesnt have any toys of her own. im even going to bring dd to drop off the doll in the toys for tots box herself and then we can go out for a nice lunch to reward her good jesture. dh is a real azz sometimes.

not mean at all, and at 4 years old she can grasp the concept of giving to others who don't necessarily have.

It'd be a great tradition for you to start for her every holiday season
