Do you think you can have vertical blinds with a scarf at the top?

So the previous owner left vertical blinds on many of the windows. They are in reallly good condition but they are not my taste. however, we decided it best to spend our money elsewhere right now and leave them for awhile. my friend suggested that we put a scarf at the top of the windows to dress them up and bring in some color. right now the blinds have framed box-like tops but they can be removed. i'm confused though because the blinds are not built into the window. for example in my living room i have a big bow window. the blinds don't sit inside of it near the glass but outside of the whole window frame. does this make sense? so can i still do a scarf? opinions would be appreciated !!!

i was in the same situation and we did valances and it looks sooooo much better until we have the money to replace the blinds w something else....the scarfs would definitely make it look better ....i say go for it
