Do you use the fabric barrier under you Mulch?
We are trying to decide if we want to use the fabric barrier under the mulch or not. We will have the 2-3 inches of mulch in our garden beds, but I want to know if it's worth putting the barrier down also. Do you have to weed more if you don't put the barrier or is the mulch enough for the weeds not to come through. We will mostly have bushes and perennial plants in the beds. I don't think we are going to put flowers. If I do flowers I will just put them into containers around the yard. TIA!

I don't have it and never had a problem.
Not sure what is right or wrong though

No fabric barrier, just a thick layer of mulch.

My SIL told me yesterday instead of buying the fbaric barrier as it could get exoensive To use wet newspaper and it works the same... And keeps the weeds away .. I would put preen down as well for the weeds....

We have fabric under our mulch, but we still get plenty of weeds. The fabric just makes the weeds easier to pull out because they don't have deep roots-they're just growing in the mulch.

Re: Do you use the fabric barrier under you Mulch?
I used the fabric barrier. Seemed like a good idea. It does degrade over time, so after 1-3 years, it won't really be there anyway. Weeds still manage to grow through them. When I redo the landscaping in the yard, I'm not going to bother with the fabric....

Re: Do you use the fabric barrier under you Mulch?
I had it under the rocks which made it a little easier to get them out of the beds.
I'm going to be using newspaper. Simple, free, plentiful and biodegradable.
This is what happened when I didn't use newspaper:
With newspaper and mulch:

My parents use it in their veggie garden (they reuse the same one year after year) and it really helps w/ the weeds.
