Do your parents know you are TTC?

Now that I am almost at the 1 year mark, I am considering telling my mom. Only because I would want her advice and support if I have to go through tests and procedures. Plus, she had a bit of trouble conceiving my sister and I so I'm sure the background would help. I just don't want to hear her say we should wait!

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

My parents do not know - actually beside my SIL and one of my really close friends and of course all of you - no one knows.
I think my mother thinks we are trying - but doesn't say anything.
If I was trying for as long as you, I probably would tell my mom, so it is someone you can talk to about it, she might be able to shed some light on things for you or even just be there when you need to talk.

Everyone knows we are open to the idea but I haven't shared that we are actively trying. I don't want anyone to really know because I don't want the inevitable questions.

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

My parents know. So does my MIL/FIL/SIL

DH told his family and I wasnt too happy about it only because I know how they are and they have been hounding me every time I talk to them or see them.

It usually goes something like this:

Them: "Are you PG?"
Me: "Nope"
Them: "Are you SURE?"
Me: "Yes Im sure"
Them: "Are you really sure youre not PG?"
Me: "Yes. I have my period"

Then they leave me alone.
MIL has also been known to RUB MY BELLY and tell me she wants TEN girl grandbabies!!
She's barking up the wrong tree if she expects TEN of anything to come out of me! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is EXACTLY my scenario .. my parents do not "know" but I think they think we are.. same as my inlaws. Thankfull they do not ask outright, because I am not sure I really would want to deal with all the Q&As all the time

Only my SIL , a couple close friends and this board REALLY knwos we are actively TTC ..

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

My parents know....but only because one night my father called...and DH said I was sleeping because I had to get up early for a test. So...my father was like what kind of test and DH told him....so I had to tell my mom also about all the tests. Now...my mother always ask "how are you feeling" and I just say fine. I don't want to go into details about the failed IUI's and the waiting and such. I know DH told his parents and his sister because whenever I come into the room if he's talking about it, he shuts up. He knows I don't want to discuss it with everyone.

For now it's my mom. my best friend, you guys and my MIL Chat Icon . She kind of put my DH on the spot about why I was home from work for the HSG, but she's been good about it, she doesn't question me or anything just a general "how are you?"

This so funny that they don't believe you. Even better is that I am NOT TTC but sometimes I get migraines and get nauseous when AF is coming and sometimes I even get sick and MIL always asks if I am pregnant and I tell her no and tell her I have my period and she tells me that she had her period while she was pregnant with DH and didn't know for a few months. She seems to think that can happen to me too.

I don't think they know. I haven't told them - very few people know. I didn't want to have to deal with questions.

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

EVERYONE knows we are going to start trying early next year. I'm so excited I can't keep my mouth shut! I guess if I don't get pregnant right away it will start to be hard because people might start asking all the time if I'm pregnant yet....i am so excited i didn't think about that! Chat Icon

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

They do now. Apparently if you have a 2 year old and you are not PG you are a freak. Everyone asks, so when is the next one. I was so sick of hearing it from my parents I told them. Plus I needed help watching my son while we go to all the appointmnets. I wasnt hiding it from them for a reason, I just didnt want to talk about it ALL THE TIME. But they have been great and its actually much better this way. except, now the routine question is "So when will you find out if it worked?". Aaaghh!Chat Icon

Very few people know. My fsil is one of them. She is my best friend. I am not ready to tell my parents yet. I may tell my sister soon too, but, we will see what happens next month. My sister is awesome, however, dont want her slipping and telling my parents.

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

Yes, my parents know and now that we are going to start getting procedures done and are considering adoption, DH decided to tell his family too. Everyone's wondering and hounding us anyway (it's been 8 years since we've been togehter) so they may as well know.

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

my parents assume that from the moment we were married we were trying to conceive...my parents also assumed that I was a virgin...Even if we weren't trying my parents would assume we were.

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

My mother knows that we are ttc. I tell her almost everything that goes on in my life but since we have been going through some problems, she knows even more. She has gone with me to my sonogram cause I hate having any tests done alone and my dh was working. My dad doesnt know because hes not good with things like that. He is still shocked that his "little girl" graduated elementary school. LOL

My in laws both passed away before we were even married. Chat Icon

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

My parents and his parents know.
It was cute for a while but now its annoying because after each test I get a call from both sets of parents and all siblings asking how it went.
When you get bad test results reporting them 5-10 different times is NOT fun.
I am just now starting to tell them all. Listen I appreciate your support but please assume no news is bad news.

Re: Do your parents know you are TTC?

I wasn't planning on telling them, but today my mom asked me if I was on the patch (b/c of the recent studies about it being linked to blood clots) and I said 'I'm not on anything!' I think I made her day. Chat Icon
