Doc said baby measuring a week behind
I'm early, just 5 or 6 weeks pregnant, and unfortunately can't remember the date of my last period! I THOUGHT it was around 4/1, which would make the baby just over six weeks. But when doc did the ultrasound she said the baby looks like just 5 to 5.5 weeks. Of course, there could be a discrepancy with the timing of my period, of I could have ovulated late (my period has generally always been a few days later than expected) but nonetheless I'm worried there's something wrong and it's not progressing on track.
She wants to see me again in 2 weeks. I'm just so nervous that this baby is measuring a week behind and something will go wrong. She wasn't too reassuring, but I think it was just her general cold bedside manner.
Any experience with this?

Re: Doc said baby measuring a week behind
The difference is only a few days, it could easily be that you ovulated late, I wouldnt worry at all. I tracked my dates very specifically and the doctor said I was actually a few days ahead of where I thought I was at my sonogram. I wouldnt worry!

Re: Doc said baby measuring a week behind
My doctor said as long as it's within a week it's fine. I was measuring a 4-7 days ahead at my sonograms.

Re: Doc said baby measuring a week behind
I would be worried b/c I strictly tracked my ovulations- opks, temps, etc. However, b/c you didn't do any of that stuff it is much more plausible that you just have the timing wrong and I would feel pretty reassured by that. I tracked my O for 3 months before we got preg this time and the 2nd time my O was wacked out- like 10 days later than expected- so I know it def happens. HTH and GL.

Re: Doc said baby measuring a week behind
I was just measured 3 weeks behind schedule..It took 3 stresssful weeks before my Dr was comfortable saying it was a viable pregnancy!
I knew my LMP - but I didnt know when I ovulated...so apparently my cyles are all screwed up!
So even though my LMP says I am 10 weeks - I am measuring at 7 weeks...but we finally saw a strong heartbeat at the last apt...
so we are good to go..I just have to make sure I tell anyone when they ask about my LMP that we are not going by that but my adjusted due date!
I pray for you that you get the same happy results...it is just stressful until the dr feels confident!
good luck!

Same thing happened to me, but I know you cant help but worry. I would see if you can go back a little sooner - there should be a heartbeat in about a week. Good luck!

Re: Doc said baby measuring a week behind
Thanks ladies. Since my period came back after first DD in January it has been about 5 days late on a regular basis, so I'm hoping I just ovulated late. I go back next Friday. She thought she saw a little flickering of heart movement but it was so tiny so she couldn't be totally sure.
Thanks for the reassurance, it's so helpful!

Re: Doc said baby measuring a week behind
My Doctor said the same thing for two visits in a row. The third visit it went back to the original EDD.

Re: Doc said baby measuring a week behind
You probably just didn't O on CD14.
I'm a late ovulater... I don't O until CD18-21. The cycle I got pregnant I O'd on CD 21. Had I gone by my LMP I would have been way behind and been a nervous wreck, meanwhile all would be just fine.
It's standard that dr's calculate DD based on LMP which is fine, but they seem to completely negate the possibility that everyone doesn't actually O on CD14. And that way of measuring is not good for all.
When my dr asked me when my LMP was... i said "IDK but I ovulated on whatever date it was". I knew when my LMP was, but I wasn't going to even say it because they would have ignored my O date factor. That's happened to me before.
So I'm hoping that's all it is. Don't get too worked up. This sort of thing can be very common and everything be OK.
