Doc visit today!
First off I wanted to thank you all for your continued support through out the day and throughout the first 6 months of our TTC process. I have no words for how much it means to me.
Tonight DH and I went to my OB/GYN for our second TTC visit. I saw a sonogram on his desk and quickly said I wish that was mine." He said "Thats just an empty uterus." I guess thats why he does what he does and why I dont!
Then the doc asks whats going on and I said "Im not pregnant." He begins to tell us what the preliminary steps are in testing. I will need to return to see him on Day 25 of this cycle to have blood work, a sonogram and something that looks like "gyn. flu." on the paper he handed me. I assume it means "fluid". He also wants to make sure I am dropping eggs. DH will have to do an SA which he can collect at home for deposit at a lab.
I told him that my cycles were regulated and the OPKS were indicating that I was indeed ovulating. Based on all of the info we told him, and my own medical history (I go for bi-yearly exams and he has known me for 15 years) he agreed that it is more than likely a timing issue. There was no mention of medication of any kind through the entire visit.
After this round of testing (for the both of us), if all is deemed to be ok (which I think it will be), our next step would more than likely be what is called AIH(Artificial Insemination from Husband) in the office. It is a procedure in which a fine catheter is inserted through my cervix into the uterus to deposit a sperm sample from the DH directly into my uterus. Basically, it is artificial insemination by someone I know - DH.
If anything of concern is found, either from me or from DH, further testing will take place and we would be referred to a fertility specialist for steps including IUI. I am hoping it will not get that far. If it does, we have a place to go upon high recommendation from my doctor. I will assume, but I have not been told, that IVF would come next if IUI doesnt work but I cannot and will not jump the gun right now. I will stay here on TTC for the time being.
I feel so much better after this visit. I feel very hopeful that we will be pregnant in early 2007. My doctor did not alarm me one bit. He was very comforting and I know he and DH will make this happen as soon as possible!
Thanks again ladies!

Re: Doc visit today!
Sounds great!!! I hadn't really heard about AIH before. So, I turned to my books tonight. From Taking Charge of Your Fertility, "AI typically involves using a catheter to gently insert the man's sperm just outside or within the cervix, whereas IUI involves placing the sperm directly into the uterus (thus the expression intrauterine insemination). For both, the sperm may be that of your partner or a donor."
I learn something new every day.
Later in the book "AI results in a preponderance of male offspring, which makes sense, given that AI is always done as close to ovulation as possible. The closer to ovulation, the more likely the male sperm will race up to the egg before the slower, heavier female sperm."
Hey, who's calling females slower and heavier?
These are my questions: 1. Would that also mean that IUI results in a preponderance of male offspring.
2. With AI do they do "sperm washing"?
Anyway, sorry to bog you down with stuff from a book.

My doctor said there is no sperm washing with AI. DH calls him the "turkey baster" - just putting them in in another way. He also says I just just get to "spread em". As for IUI and males. I dont know. I am not there yet so I didnt ask.

Well, for me, I'd certainly want to start out with whatever assistive technology I can get without having to take the fertility meds.
I'm not even sure if the "sperm washing" is ALWAYS done with IUI.

I agree. I dont want to have to take anything until and unless I have no other choice.
