Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
I am so disappointed. I was so looking forward to confirmation from teh doctor and to have it be "official". Apparently she has a family emergency and has not been in the office for 3 weeks now. The receptionist said that she is not expected back until after labor day but that she could schedule me with the other doctor in the group (who I've never met before) for tomorrow. and that it wouldn't matter even if my doctor was in because their new office protocol is that they alternate visits with all patients between the 2 patients.
I'm not sure what to do since the only reason I went there was because I loved her specifically. then she got so busy that it took over 3 months to schedule an appointment if you were not PG and now I guess she has so many patients that she has taken on another doctor.
Should I just go to see this new doctor? her office is actually out of the way for me.
UUUGHHHH, so frustrated right now.

I say stick with a Dr. you know you love. Visit the other Dr to get to know him/ her- you will have to anyway. for the delay- that is a bummer.

Re: Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
Sorry they cancelled your appointment.
I know how much I looked forward to having a medical professional confirm for me that I was pregnant.
The information they gave you was correct. Most doctors are in practice with other doctors. You end up having to see all of them because you never know who will be on call when you go into labor. So they want you to meet with all of them. Unless you are having a planned c-section, it might not be your doctor who delivers for you.
If you really want the confirmation, go ahead and see the other doctor. Then for your next appointment, you can see your doctor. Good luck!

if you are going to have to meet the new doctor at some point anyway, why not tomorrow? Atleast then you will get the conformation you want.

Re: Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
I am sorry, and I can understand how disappointed you must feel right now. This meant a lot to me too, eventhough I figured a few pregnancy tests and a missed period were strong signs, I still wanted to make it official.
You may want to see the other doctor. As others have said, you may not be delivered by your doctor, and it's good to check the others in the practice out early.

I was thinking the same thing. You'll have to see the other doc anyway, so why not now?

ITA!! In any practice with more than one doctor you're going to have to meet the other dr/drs at some point in your pregnancy. If you don't want to wait until your other dr comes back then I would just go to the appt tomorrow and get the confirmation.

Re: Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
i would go and see the new doctor...and then your next appointment in 4 weeks will be with the dr you are more comfortable with....... they do more at that second appt anyway -- and plus you can get the confirmation that you want now...
plus, like others say you need to see all the drs throughout your pregnancy so why not start early and get comfortable with more than the one doctor..
good luck in whatever you chose to do!

Re: Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
I've never met the other doc at my docs practice. I guess I should find out if I need to do that or not.

Re: Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
I guess I'm also upset because I really liked going to my original doctor so much and the past 2 years, things in her practice seem to be taking a turn that I don't like. she's always booked and so busy. When I first starting going to her, it was just her. and you could get an appointment within a week (even if you weren't PG) but lately it seems like she has more patients that she can handle and it would take months to get an appointment with her. She delivered by SIL's 2 kids and SIL loved her too and reassured me that once I was PG she would make the time to see me so I was really disappointed to hear that she had taken on a new doctor in her practice and that I would not be able to see her yet. I didn't even know she expanded her practice until today when they called to cancel.
I guess it makes sense that whoever was on call that day would be the one to deliver, but given the inconvenience of her office, I'm not sure I would want to go there if I end up having to go to the other doctor who I don't know and may not like.
I guess I will just go tomorrow and see how the new doctor is. Hopefully I will like her also. I'd hate to have to start looking for someone new now.

Re: Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
I would check out the other doctor just to see if you like her and get your confirmation. You will most likely alternate between the two during your 9 months, so if you and the other doctor are a total mismatch, you may need to seriously consider going elsewhere.

Re: Doctor just cancelled my first appointment today!
There is no way that one doctor could guarantee that they will be there for your delivery. What if they were doing surgery for 8 hours right before you went into labor, or had been doing another delivery? They cannot work 24/7, have a right to take days off and even if they do not share a practice with someone else, they have backups. In a group practice, you get more opportunity to know who those backups are. If you are disappointed with your doctor now, ask some questions about how it will work, then decide whether to stay. In the meantime, see the doctor that you can get an appointment with.

Even if its a scheduled c-section, you might have the *other* doctor deliver. The doctors I use are both at every scheduled section.
