Doctors and Fitness!!
My knees hurt when exercising.
My foot doctor tells me one thing. also says to see a knee doctor.
My knee doctor tells me a different thing. also says to see a physical therapist.
The physical therapists say yet a different thing.
If the knee doctor says it's an issue of strength and the PTs say it's an issue of structure, would you confront the knee doctor about why this structural issue wasn't addressed?

I think I would be more apt to trust the doctor, who is trained to diagnose an injury, where a PT is not supposed to attempt to diagnose bc they are not trained or legally allowed to do so. Did you have xrays or an MRI? I would think that would be the best way to tell if it was a structure issue.
If anything I would get a second opinion for a different dr, maybe the first missed something.

Yes, X-rays were taken. But everything the PT's said made perfect sense to ME and what I was trying to relay to the knee doctor and also correlated with what the foot doctor said... so I am thinking maybe I need to change my knee doctor and see someone else.... frustrating!!

Re: Doctors and Fitness!!
I would go w/what the knee doctor says over the foot doctor or the PT.
Plus, I'm not sure, but I don't think a PT is trained or qualified to read an x-ray.
Maybe go for a second opinion w/a different orthopedist?

Re: Doctors and Fitness!!
The orthopedist has the most training and is likely the best source of information. I would be hesitant to take the diagnosis of a PT over that of a doctor. Like a PP said the role of the PT is not to give a diagnosis but to treat based on the doctor's recommendations. IF the PT feels you were not properly diagnosed they should give your doctor a call to discuss your treatment plan. If you feel there is a structural (bone) issue that was not addressed you should definitly call your doctor and discuss it. Good Luck.
