Doctors First Visit today
Well, everything seems to be okay right now. I had my first sonogram today. My due date is April 12. At first they thought I was eight weeks but I am actually six weeks and four days preggo. They took lots of blood and now I have to decide if I should do the test for down syndrome. I have to let them know by our next visit which is in the end of September.
What did everyone do about this test?

Re: Doctors First Visit today
I got the test done only because I was having problem in the beginnig. I wasn't nervous about the test/the results. My husband and I just figured it it came out that she did have it then atleast we can prepare for it by learning as much as we can. Its really up to you. If you feel that you should get it done then Good luck and if you don't there is nothing to feel bad about. I have three sisters with a total of 6 kids and none of them took the test. Good luck.Congrats on my pregnancy.

Re: Doctors First Visit today
Is the finger prick the downs test? They scheduled me for that without asking... Should I be worried?

It is the finger prick test and an ultrasound where they measure the the thickness of the baby's neck. A developing fetus has a translucent sack at the back of it's neck. The bigger the sack, the greater the risk for Down's Syndrome and other birth defects.
My doctor also just told me to schedule for 12 weeks and I just did it. At the time I didn't know I had a choice. Like someone else said it is non-invasive.

Re: Doctors First Visit today
I had the test at 12 weeks and it was nothing. The sono was the best part because I got to see the baby again and it was so much bigger than the last sono I had.
The test itself isn't a big deal. I think it is just a personal choice as to whether of not you want it done. I personally wanted to know if there was anything possibly wrong so we could be prepared for it.

me too. I was at the dr today and while I did not know there was really a choice, since it's non-invasive, I see no problem having it done. If I understood him, he said it's not 100% but it can help detect and then you can decide to test further if necessary.
