Dodging work questions
How do you avoid employees asking you how long you are taking off, who will watch the baby, etc.? I just had someone ask me loudly in the hallway where my bosses would be able to hear, assuming I'm coming back full-time saying who is going to watch the baby every day, etc. I would like to ask my bosses if I could work from home one or 2 days a week - and don't plan on asking until after the baby is born - and the last thing I need is them knowing now... How do you kindly tell someone to mind their own business?

Re: Dodging work questions
I usually just tell me in my mind I have it all worked out but nothing is set in stone just yet.

Re: Dodging work questions
I would just say "Right now I'm looking to get through the delivery."

Re: Dodging work questions
I used to just tell people that my husband and I were still discussing it.

Re: Dodging work questions
I would just say that I am still looking into my options, which you probably are anyway. People mean well, but I know that it can be annoying.

Re: Dodging work questions
Thanks. I know she means well - but that could determine my future here at the company if someone overhears the conversation.

Re: Dodging work questions
Tell her you haven't gotten to that point as of yet.
As far as working from home, I would bring that subject up way before I leave on maternity leave. That is something you want to have ironed out prior to leaving. I have been working with my bosses on this. I complied a list of what could be accomplished at home and what type of days I wanted to work. I am having them put it in writing so there is no confusion when I come back.

Great advice! I should do just that. It's so scary but great to know ahead of time!
