DOE teachers- can you talk to me about how parking passes are assigned?
I swear, it's utterly ridiculous that this has to be done. We never had issues with the old system.
Anyway, vent over. I know I may have to contact my district rep, but maybe you ladies know something.
Does your school allow these people to have passes: - subs - counselors - paras
I am in charge of doing the lottery and distributing the passes. The chapter leader wants nothing to do with it so I volunteered. And now I have people ******** at me because "this person's not in our union, that person's not in our union...blah, blah, blah." So I want to do what's fair, even though I think it's kind of petty.
Any advice would be helpful. TIA.

no experience with this, but i would think that if the passes are coming from the DOE, they would be for any DOE employee. if they are coming from the UFT, then they would only be for UFT members.

They now actually come from the DOT, so the city itself. However, the UFT did the negotiations. So we give one to the principal as a courtesy, but not the AP. She's not even allowed to be in the pool. So people think the same should hold for others because they are not (or are they- this is what I need to learn) members of our union.

Well, teachers and guidance counselors and social workers are ALL UFT members. Subs, paras, school aides, secretaries, and APs are not.

Thanks- I looked on the UFT site. Aides are part of another union- I forget which one.
The only thing I am unsure about is subs- they do pay dues but they can't vote in Chapter elections. It's ridiculously confusing!

Honestly I feel like fulltime staff gets priority. Subs are not on the organzation sheet and therefore should not be included IMO
