I don't know. Why don't you check out their website. We took Matthew to a Mets game last year when he was 14 months old and he did not require a seat. For Shea Stadium any kid that is 32 inches or under do not require a seat. I'm assuming it's the same for Yankee Stadium..

Here is the info from the Yankees website:
CHILDREN
Children who are less than 30 inches tall, can walk freely under the turnstile, or are carried into the Stadium do not require a ticket to enter. However, the child must sit on an adult's lap during the game without obstructing the view of any other guests.
