does anyone else boycott restaurants?
I had a bad experience at pio pio a few years ago, where they charged us for an extra sangria that we didnt order and when we disputed it with the manager, he said if he didnt charge us for it, he'd just take it out of the waiter's salary.
after that i looked it up and saw that there were a few class action suits about how the employees are treated. It left a bad taste in my mouth (literally!) and I haven't been back there.
DH is giving me a hard time because we've always loved this place and he wants me to go back lol, but I feel wrong supporting their business.
Do you guys care about this stuff?

I boycott all sorts of places that piss me off!
I would say that after that kind of treatment + what you've learned since, it makes sense to not give them any more buisness.
It's hard. Especially breaking up with a restaurant that you love. LOL
Breaking up is hard to doooooo.

If I boycotted every restaurant that treated their employees poorly I would never eat out.
DH works for a class action law firm and there are so many restaurants gettign sued.
As for the one drink on the bill? I probably wouldn't boycott jsut for that.

Re: does anyone else boycott restaurants?
Yes Caio baby. Several years ago when they were still new, I called to make a reservation for a friend's birthday (there was 10 of us). I asked if I could bring our own cake. They said yes. We brought the cake. They put it in the back and all was fine until they cleared the dinner dishes away and I was pulled aside and told that there was a $6 cutting charge per person Mind you their desserts were LESS than that. I told that I understood a cutting charge but that I was never told of one and that charging me $60 to cut my own cake was excessive. They refused to budge. I have kept my promise never to go back.

It was a pItcher, about $30. It was more the way the manager treated us and the employee, along with finding out that they had cheated so many employees out of wages over many years.
And Kris, you're right. Even after 2 years it's hard to stay broken up lol

Not boycott but will never, EVER eat there. Cafe Baci. My friend worked there and witnessed a rat running across the back of the burner station, the cook slapped it with a spatula and continued to cook food. WITH the spatula.

I so wish I never opened this thread. That's one of my favorite restaurants.

does anyone else boycott restaurants?
I was at a restaurant with my family for mother's day a few years ago. The waiter accidentally spilled a glass of wine on me. (luckily it was white wine). I truly just laughed about it, at first, but when they didn't even offer a another glass as a replacement and the waiter left the dirty rag that he wiped it up with on our table, I decided I would never go there again.

I feel like it's not enough to JUST boycott a place. By you not going, they aren't suffering much. However.. I DO think it's worthwhile to boycott a place AND spread the word. Write up a crappy review.. tell your friends.. etc..

I never understood the hype with this place either, other than I get that people enjoy big portions .. but WOW this story is ridiculous!!!!! I was charged a cutting fee at Grillfire when I had my DH's birthday there, but I think it was more like $2 a person. That's insane!!!
eta: My DH actually recalls it even being $1 a person. 6 is just absurd!!

Re: does anyone else boycott restaurants?
I know someone who has done work inside one of the restaurant's kitchen's mentioned on this thread, who told me that they left sauce and other items out while work was being done overnight, that dust and grime was going on top of.
I also swear they have a prostitution ring going on between there and the hotel next store but that's another thread.

I'm a big fan of boycotting, but we don't really eat out enough that we've come across anywhere to boycott!
That being said, I will never ever give Dominos a penny of my money because they give so much money to certain causes that I do not believe in.
I try not to buy Nestlé products whenever possible because of their atrocious behavior in developing countries regarding women and children.

Pio is my fave! There are only like 2 places near my work that have edible food, and Pio Pio is one of them. I won't boycott for one mistake or one bad server, but I would for cleanliness or abusing employees.

I boycott any place that charges me extra for a double tea bag. I like my tea strong and order tea with two bags. MOST places do not charge extra, while some do. Its just bad business in my opinion.
