does anyone elses 2 year old.../what should i do?
anyone elses 2 year old start doing 'baby talk' or ryhme words like "nickle, pickle wickle tickle'? my ds can speak in full correct sentences and can hold a conversation but since we brought his baby brother home he has been screeching and screaming this jibberish all the time. it's making me nuts! i know it's normal to act out when you get a new sibling but it's been 2 months and he gets TONS of 1:1 attention between me, dh, and my parents. we've tried ignoring it, praising him when he talks like a big boy, reminding him he needs to talk like a big boy, being stern with him, but it's just getting worse and goes on ALL day. i even hear him doing it in his crib.
is this a toddler thing or just a reaction to his brother? or both?
what do you think i should do?
i'm so tired of the screaming and screeching and so is his 2 month old bro who gets so startled and cries every time he does this. which of course makes josh scream even more. HELP!

I know it's hard, but i wouldn't give him any attention when he's yelling. Telling him to stop, any kind of negative attention is still just that--- attention.
My DD used to do something along those lines and i knew she was acting out, but the behavior was unacceptable to me.
I would take her baby sister and leave the room and tell her when she talk in her big girl voice and not yell she can play/talk/sit whatever with us--whatever it was we were doing at that moment i ended it. That's it, no explanation, just a stern look on my face and ended whatever we were doing. After she stopped the behavior, whenever she would do something right, i made sure the positive praises were coming for EVERYTHING-playing nice with her sister, sitting at the table like a big girl, etc..
It took a little while but she got the jist of it.
I thinks it's all part of the sibling rivalry that starts early :)
GOod luck!

OK- the rhyming thing is AWESOME!!! Please see that as a total positive thing in his language development. Rhyming is a skill that most kids his age aren't even aware of yet.
As for the screaming- yeah, Mads does it too- especially when her 7 month old sister joins in. I ignore it- ANY attention, even negative is still attention to a toddler. LOTS of positeve praise when she's being "good" is something I lavish on her as well- and it works!
