Re: Can anyone reccommend a gym ??
I may not be help, but I've belonged to NYSC and really loved it. I think it was like 1200 a year. Now I am going to NYHRC, don't know the cost of that. (my job pays for it) I've also gone to Gold's and it was 600 a year.
Sorry, I dont' like in LI so I can't help with specific gyms in your area. Good luck!

Re: Does anyone go to NYSC in Oceanside?
I belonged to this gym for a long time. I still belong to NYSC but go to the one in East Meadow since I moved to that area. The one in Oceanside is 10 times nicer than the one in East Meadow! The one in Oceanside is easy to naviagte, always found everyone very helpful, the gym itself is very clean. I just worked out there recently for my Mom still lives in the area. It hasn't changed a bit (in a good way).
I know they offer or did offer certain discounts for people who work in the educational field and probably other fields as well - definitely ask about potential discounts if you sign up.
I would inquire about a free one-week pass and see what they say. You shouldn't have to commit until you know you like the gym. They want your business so most gyms will usually let you try out a gym for free.

I've only been to 3 in the city and the one in forest hills, all of which were nice. You can't really go wrong with NYSC, in my opinion.

Re: Does anyone go to NYSC in Oceanside?
I loooove NYSC. So sad I'll have to switch gyms when I move. Been going there for years. I love the convenience of going wherever there was one. On LI, I'd go to both East Meadow and Syosset. In the city I went to a whole bunch near work.
Now in NJ, I go to one by work and 2 by home. But where I'm moving to, there aren't any close by. And since I have summers off, I want my gym to be closeby year round. Gonna miss it!

I go to Sky Athletic Club in RVC and have been really happy with it.

i don't belong to NYSC oceanside but i did look at it. i like classes and there aren't a lot of them there. but its one of the newer ones so that's a plus. garden city is the nicest one i've seen though (i used to belong there.)
