Does anyone have an employer that makes you have insurance coverage?

I know some companies make you get insurance or prove you have coverage via a spouse.

Anyone experience this? What are your thoughts on it ?

I'm confused. If your company offers insurance, they can't decide to not cover you because your spouse has insurance.

when I worked in HR if you were opting out of benefits because you were covered by your spouse we asked for proof. I think this is because there was an opt out bonus

They do not ask at my current company.

My company states that if you opt out of the benefits, they could possibly ask you to show coverage that you have health insurance somewhere else.

I actually agree with it. First of all, if you opt out of the benefits, you actually get paid more (although it is not a tremendous amount), so the company wants to be sure you aren't just opting out to get the extra money, leaving you uncovered.

The second thing is when people don't have health insurance and they get sick, they are more likely to not go to the doctor because it's expensive. They are more likely to come to work sick. They won't be as productive and may be sick for a longer period of time, ultimately impacting the business.

So our company doesn't care if you don't take our insurance...but you have to be covered somewhere.

I opt out of my benefits because I'm covered by DH. I have to submit proof to HR to show that I'm covered. It might be because we get a bonus for not taking the insurance.

My co does this, and you have to provide proof that you have coverage elsewhere
