Insurance Coverage -- How Depressing !!!
I can't believe how much all this RE stuff costs! My insurance hardly covers anything. Thank goodness, I kept my insurance and I am covered under my husbands as well. If it wasn't for his policy I don't know what we would do. That is the 1st thing they ask, "What insurance do you have?" They know right off the bat what insurance covers alot and what covers NOTHING.
This makes things so much more stressfull and depressing.

Re: Insurance Coverage -- How Depressing !!!
You're telling me??? I left my job with amazing benefits in the city to get a 'mommy job.' Now I realize that I cannot become a mommy without IVF, and I cannot get IVF without the right insurance, which DH and I Don't Have! It's VERY frustrating and depressing.

Re: Insurance Coverage -- How Depressing !!!
I know that my quest ends with IVF because our insurance doesn't cover it. I can only hope the IUI works! What about copays? We pay $40 every time we go to the RE.

I would give ANYTHING to only have to pay $40. My RE does not take insurance.

Re: Insurance Coverage -- How Depressing !!!
I'll find out next wk what my RE takes...or wait, can you girls help me with that? Anyone know what Reproductive Services of NY takes?
I know my insurance covers disgnostic procedures...like the HSG, endometrial biopsy and laperscopy. But they do not cover IVF. I don't even think they cover IUI but I have to double check when I come to that road.
DH's insurance isn't that much better. All of our other medical coverage is FANTASTIC...but when it comes to infertility they pretty much scre w you.

My copay is only $15....and my insurance covers 6 cycles of IUI (I'm going on #2 this month). They do not cover IVF....so I don't know what we will do if we get to that point.
Anyone know how much an IVF cycle runs?

It depends on where you go, and what "extras" you need.
I would say it runs from $7000 to $10,000, plus "extras", and drugs if your ins co does not cover them either....

Re: Insurance Coverage -- How Depressing !!!
It truly is depressing that insurance covers so little when it comes to advanced fertility treatments..
I honestly haven't heard of ANYONE who has coverage for IVF ... I could be wrong, but its one of those things that I've always heard of people paying out of pocket for
I am actually afraid to see what DH's insurance covers (if at all) for IUI, etc. I have a feeling its VERY BASIC, if anything at all
OH and I could be wrong Kim, so do not qoute me BUT I've heard that IVF starts at anywhere from $10-$15,000 ... and up

Re: Insurance Coverage -- How Depressing !!!
I feel like I'm one of few that doesn't have insurance that covers IVF. So many of my friends and family members have gotten pg that way, all through insurance. It's very discouraging.

My first 2 cycles were covered with Oxford, but then my DH's company switched carrier's
So, the last 4 have been out of pocket. A regular IVF cycle is $8900. I do IVF with co culture, so it's been about $11,000 (I go to Cornell which is more $$) for the IVF, and of course I'm a poor responder so I need a lot of drugs, and that has run about $5000 or more a cycle I don't even want to add that up... Even though my ins co does not pay for IVF, to my surprise they did reimburse me for bloodwork and sono's, so I wind up getting a couple of thousand back each cycle...

Lisa, thank you for the clarification... I didn't realize how it all "broke down." money-wise, throughout the entire IVF process.. (sorry for misquoting earlier )
I pray for you so that your next in vitro is the one that 'works' and that the end of this process is near for you!!

Re: Insurance Coverage -- How Depressing !!!
When I first started going to the RE my insurance didn't cover anything so in 2 months we spent $5,000 for 2 months of IUI's, blood tests and sonograms. We had to wait until January when our new insurance kicked in.
My insurance (Aetna PPO) gives me $20,000 lifetime of infertility benefits so I can be covered for IVF. My copays are $15.

I have Aetna PPO too- I just found out that they cover "diagnosis and medical treatment for the condition" and then up to $5,000 per year for IVF or IUIs
Lisa Lots of luck and baby dust today!!
