Does anyone have wood floors in their dining room and

NOT have an area rug?

I am kind of liking how spacious is looks with nothing...

Or if you have an area rug.. can you post pics so I can get ideas!!!

We have hardwood floors and no rug.

We opted not to have a rug for the following reasons:
1. it's easier to clean the wood floor when food and liquids drop on it
2. our dining room chairs are solid mahogany and therefore very heavy, so we just put felt pads on the bottom so that we can just slide them on the wood floor.

My dining room is hardwood and for the longest time, we didn't have a rug. Then my brother was moving and gave us the rug he had, and since it was a perfect match, we used it.

I tell my DH every day I am not sure I like it there or not! We use our dining room to eat dinner in since we don't have an eat in kitchen. Our dining room is small, but I don't think putting the rug in made it look smaller.

I don't have one. I bougt one for the room and and it up taking it out b/c i liked the way it looked with out one.

Plus finding the right size was annoying. the 5x7 looked too small, but the 8x10 looked too big, but when all the leaves are in the table exented further than the rug.

The rug is 9 feet long and 6 feet wide. (our dining room is 10 feet wide by 13 feet long to give you a sense if its size)

Our table as shown is without the second leaf. The table with all the leaves is 108" (9-feet) and thus when its in, the table is the size of the rug.

i don't have a pic that shows the floor well, but we don't have a rug. I take the leaves in & out all the time for different sized dinner parties & there is a lots of other fabric & color going on in the room.
Plus we eat at the table everyday so the floor is much easier to clean w/o a rug.

I am not planning on getting a rug for the DR. Like Chatham Chick mentioned, I do not want to have to deal with spills. And honestly, I'd rather swiffer under the table then manuver the vacumn around!

I dont have one either.. i just have felt pads on my chairs.. i like the spaciousness it creates without a rug in my house, plus I paid good money for my floors to be done, so I want to fully enjoy them!

we have wood floors and no rugs. I have 2 dogs that shed like crazy and think the area rug just attracts hair. I'm not a fan of rugs of any sort besides the ones by the front door to wipe your feet.

I don't have a pic, but I think it looks great.

I have wood floors in my dining room and even though we don't have a dining room set yet, I don't think we are going to have a rug underneath. I like the wood floor look.

DH and I are debating this same thing ourselves now that we have a DR set. He wants no rug, I was thinking a nice one might be nice for under the table, but after reading this thread, I think we'll not doa rug for now and just get felt sliders for the chairs/tables to not scratch the wood.

We don't have a rug yet, but I am definately going to get one. With the open floor plan we have I feel I need to define the space more. Also, as you can tell it's still a work in progress, but here is a picture of it:

We have a tiny DR. wood floors, and a rug, I just prefer the way it looks!

This is not the best picture, things have been updated since then but you get the idea...

I have tile and no rug. Easier to keep clean. Especially with the cats and the fur.

No rug because we are expanding the house in a few years and I don't want to invest in one right now.

i have felt pads under the furniture to protect the floors.
Maybe in a year or so, if i want a 'new'look i may put down a rug

No Rugs!!!! It makes the space more open and bigger!!! Plus if you have nice floors why hide them???

Once we will have children I will probably put rugs in (for safety reasons) but for now I enjoy the openness and the look of hardwood floors!!!!

We dont' have a dining room yet, but hopefully will soon (building an extension) and I was wondering the same thing. We'll have wood floors and I'm concerned that it will look like way too much wood if we don't put a rug under the table. I'm also concerned about the table and the floor matching - I think it looks weird when one is darker than the other...but not sure I'm crazy about them matching one another either. I think the rug would break up all of the wood...
