Can you FM who you use for your income taxes? We're invested in the fund DH works for and last year we used the accountant the partners recommended and it was almost $1,000.

Re: Does anyone invest in hedge funds?

do you need a specific kind of accountant for that? I wouldn't think so.

I have a great accounting firm that I use that charges no where near that and we have various investments.

Please FM if you need the info.

$1000 is WAY TOO MUCH! I am a CPA and I work at and invest in a hedge fund. A hedge fund normally provides you with a pretty basic K-1 which any accountant should be able to handle. Definitely find someone else to do it.

The partners said we had to use someone who specializes in it b/c it's a weird tax situation. Who knows, maybe the firm gets a kick back?

I agree, a simple K-1 should be no big feat for an accountant. I am a CPA as well and all the info is given on the K-1, 1,000 is WAY too much IMHO
