I live in a different part of LI so I'm not familiar with these schools, but clicked on this post just based on the title.
The curiosity is killing me-- what is the deal with this St. Luke's? Is it more reasonable than other schools? Does it offer something other schools don't? Is there some sort of prestige factor?
I'm just asking because my children both attended preschool at a local Catholic school, I've never heard of such a stampede to register. I mean, the programs the school had were popular and filled up pretty fast, but I have never heard of parents camping out or making "lists" or harassing others just to get in.
St. Luke's and peanuts are half the price of the 2 schools my kids attend. It could be the price .....

It's totally the price and all teachers are certified. They also offer full day with before and after care. My daughter went 5 full days last year and her class was like a little family. She was more than prepared for kindergarten but I think it comes down to cost. $745 for 5 full days hot lunch included. Besides that, I'm a teacher and I loved it. We're there things I didn't love? Sure, but parents in my own class probably don't love everything I do.

As I said, I feel horrible that this happened to your friend and the way she was spoken to. I don't even understand why she was harassed if she went to the back of the line after all the numbers were done or whatever number she was. You may think the list is foolish but many others don't and while the school doesn't have anything to do with the list the parents follow it in an orderly fashion. Luckily I've never had a problem, but then again I've respected the way things are done. If I didn't like it I would go elsewhere.
Why would the parents be handling this list and not the school? I don't understand that.
Thing is, the parents TRY to handle it and it didn't work out for them this year so they went off on the people who were doing what is school policy. Respecting how things are done...parents acting like mobsters making their own laws/rules and attacking those who don't "respect" them??? Shameful. My friend told the school why she was pulling her child and they said they totally understand, however they didn't even apologize to her for how she was treated. Again, shameful.
