Does anyone know the death rate for Omicron?
I know it is very low but I am wondering if there are any actual stats out there yet.

Does anyone know the death rate for Omicron?
I had searched and all I found was 1 death (I'm sure there are more as there have been Covid deaths recently but I know some of them are people who were hospitalized for awhile so not all recent cases).

Re: Does anyone know the death rate for Omicron?
Do they actually KNOW who has WHAT variant though? I thought they took samples and then tested them. Do they know individuals or from a group of samples?
I find this highly unlikely that they know each case and it would take weeks I am assuming.

Does anyone know the death rate for Omicron?
Death rates lag so US data on omicron won’t be available for a few weeks.

I wonder if you’re in in the ICU if they test for the specific variant. I honestly have no idea just throwing that out as an idea.

Yes that is my question as I understood they can’t tell from individual tests.

Maybe if you die from it they do? But I can't see them doing that because everything is so inefficient so who knows?

I really wish that tests would come back with what variant you have instead of people just guessing

Does it really matter? I’m not trying to be snarky I just don’t get why people Care what strain they have and what people are dying of! I’m confused how they are even testing and figuring it out from all the people that are being tested.
People are getting Covid some people are fine and some people get extremely Sick and some people are dying.
I just heard the new strain has been found great what are the results of that going to be. It’s going be that is some people will be fine some people will get extremely sick and some people will die

Does it really matter?
Yes, it does.
If we knew that the survival rate was no different than the flu, could we adjust some of the more crippling policies currently in place? Like for instance having to keep our healthy child home from school for TEN days every time they are merely exposed to a positive case.
(I have no idea what the death rate is, but I do know that it's pretty darn low)

Does anyone know if the other strains of COVID are gone or are people still getting them? Has it completely mutated into Omicron or are the other variants still out there?

But how is that going to help when all these strains are out there?? You’re not going to be able to tell which ones someone has right away.
Regarding the 10 day quarantine they have proposed a test to stay which I know my school is planning on implementing once Suffolk county has the guidelines out for it.
Listen I’m over it all but I just don’t think knowing the death rate based on the variants is going to change anything

I think it does though.
95% of all new cases is Omicron. If death rate is low, restrictions can be adjusted to the actual risk level.
People are hospitalized right now that have Covid - it's been uncovered that many of these folks are ill with something else and then it turns out they are Covid +.
Also - many of the recent deaths are people who were hospitalized for awhile. Someone I know just passed away after being hospitalized with what I presume was Delta for 3 mos.

Re: Does anyone know the death rate for Omicron?
Percentage wise the death rates have always been low. Regardless of variant. If this new one is even lower, great! That's what you want a virus to do- weaken over time. It happened with the Spanish flu
But we were never dealing with anything even close to say Ebola level death rates even during the times with the most oppressive of restrictions.

cause reality is people are dying from covid and it is still a lot of people even if % wise its low compare to all the people in the world. Lots of people probably have had close people die to them so they see it. and if you are lucky enough to not experience that you wont look at it the same way.
a family just lost the mom to covid the dad i think lost partial leg due to covid. that's pretty serious and def. shakes people up.
but with all that said; i am over restrictions and think its to time to loosen them all up every where.

But see you hear these stories but NEVER hear about the issues they had before and with covid. I would say the majority of people who have died had other things that exacerbated covid. The healthy people are most likely a very minimum. You don't always know you have an issue until it is too late.

So because they had issues it’s ok??!! Issues or not it’s not ok. What’s considered issues??!! I am sure the list is long and most people would qualify as it.
Either way any death is NOT OK even if there were underlying issues. 2 young children lost their mother that’s not ok.
I am still over all the restrictions I think they should be removed but I’m certainly not insensitive and not naïve to think that I can be one of those people that die if I get it (though I am vaccinated )or my kids have a risk if I don’t vaccinate them they can get it and be serious I’ll and die. I’m also not insensitive or naïve to think that if I do get to vaccinate there’s a risk that they may die or get a very bad side Effect.

I never said it was ok and any death is sad. My point is that people keep saying well Mary or Joe was healthy and Covid killed them. Unless you know 100% their medical history and if THEY even know it, you can’t say they were healthy. Heck I listened to a podcast the other day where this girl kept saying someone died and was healthy but kept mentioning he had diabetes. Diabetes means you are not healthy. People just are clueless.

It matters a lot! If this strain is not deadly at all that's something that we need to know. I'm confused at why you wouldn't want to know if the variants are getting weaker and weaker.

It's actually about 95% Omicron as of yesterday.
I think Alpha is pretty much gone and Delta is on it's way out.
But now there is IHU discovered in France from Africa...
The problem seems to be it's mutating in Africa...

I'm confused. Where did she say it was okay?
Also, are you saying any death related to covid is not okay? So under that logic are any deaths related to say, a car accident okay? If no death related to a car accident is okay, should we all stop driving?

Oh wow I thought it was still about 35% delta. This seems like good news since omicron seems way less severe.
