Does anyone know what beaches will be closed due to bacteria?
They're saying "many along N and S shores" but aren't mentioning which!
Mainly, I want to know about Short Beach and Moses.

Re: Does anyone know what beaches will be closed due to bacteria?
Dozens of LI beaches closed BY WIL CRUZ Newsday Staff Writer
July 13, 2006, 2:25 PM EDT
In response to the heavy rainfall Wednesday night, Nassau and Suffolk health departments warned that dozens of beaches will be affected or closed heading into the weekend.
In Nassau, 23 beaches, including all of the beaches on the North Shore, will be closed effective immediately. On the South Shore, the following beaches will be closed: Biltmore Beach Club Beach; Hewlett Point Beach; Island Park Beach; Merrick Estates Civic Association Beach; and Phillip Healey Beach.
Nassau's Department of Health, in a press released issued Thursday, said the "storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacteria levels that are used to assess bathing water quality."
It was not immediately clear when the beaches would open again. The department said individuals can call 516-571-3680 from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. for more information.
In Suffolk, the county's Department of Health issued an advisory against bathing or water contact at 47 beaches.
Citing the same bacterial concerns, the department said that beaches should be avoided until "the waters have flushed by two successive tidal cycles," which are 24-hour periods after the end of rainfall.
Beaches along the northern shoreline of Great South Bay, within and adjacent to various north shore embayments -- Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington Harbor and Bay, Centerport Harbor, Northport Harbor and Bay, Stony Brook Harbor, Port Jefferson Harbor, and Mt. Sinai Harbor -- as well as those Long Island Sound that were impacted by nearby storm water discharges are affected by the advisory.
Some beaches off the Sound are not fall under the warning, as well as beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, such as the Peconic Estuary.
Valley Grove Beach, meanwhile, remains closed, the department said.
Advisories will remain in effect based on water samples collected by the department's office of ecology. They will be lifted on a beach by beach basis.
For more information, the department offered these numbers: department of ecology at 631-852-5760 or the Beach Hotline at 631-852-5822.
