Does Anyone Know what Type of Shurb/Plant this is? Pic Fixed!
We haven't done anything to it since we have moved in (2 years ago) and now it just looks overgrown. I am not sure how I should prune it.
Any recs?
Thanks!

The leaves look similar to my magnolia. Does it flower in the spring?

Nope - no flowers. Just leaves. When the weather changes, the leaves fall off and you just see the knarly type branches. It's actually pretty cool looking, I just need to get it under control and I just don't want to start snipping!

It is a contorted filbert tree. The gnarly/ twisted branches are really cool when the leaves drop off. It's a relatively expensive tree- a shame to cut down. Google image will bring up alot of pictures. HTH

Your welcome...I don't know it's pruning schedule- but at least you have a starting point.
As an interesting aside, the tree is also known as "Harry Lauder's walking stick." This might explain the Harry Potter reference.
Enjoy!

These are pretty cool looking! I think this tree does get these long yellow flowers.

Not sure about the bush but the weeds you outlined look like a maple tree, if so you should definitely de-root it before it gets too big.

I agree. I get these maple trees starting to grow all the time bec. of the neighbor's tree. If I don't pull them out when they are only a couple of inches, they are hard to pull out.

Ditto on the maple saplings! I have three maples on my property and the saplings are everywhere.
I never knew what Harry Lauder's Walking Stick looked like leafed out! I have always wanted one, but only ever saw pictures of it in winter. It is a really fascinating tree - a "specimen" planting if you will. Congrats!

It definitely never flowers. It would be pretty if it did!
