Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
The house we bought has a big eat-in-kitchen which will fit my table that I have in my co-op. Has anyone ever used their dining room for something else and didn't get any furniture?
I'm wondering if I *need* a dining room table...I don't have a big family.
I'm confused.

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
I personally love a formal dining room. Growing up we did eat in it before we moved a got an EIK. A lot of older homes don't have EIK, just dining rooms instead. I think its whatever you are used to. I couldn't wait to get my china closest and dining room set. And even in our apartment, we used it.

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
what about a play room? for your son or your DH
I went into an apartment last night across from me and the guy had a pool table where the dining room table should have been

My friend uses hers as a play area for her toddlers-they have a big kitchen and just didn't need a formal dining room yet. Instead of having their toys all over their house, they are in there. She plans to covert it back when they get older.

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
Well the house has a basement so I was going to have his toys down there.
I would like to have a china cabinet. I just don't know if I need a "useless room" I always hated the room that no one used in my parent's house. I thought it was a waste of space. Would I really use the dining room? Maybe I'm being silly...

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
Is it a separate room? if it's not could you incorporate it into another room and just make it one big room?

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
The living room goes into the dining room...it's not a separate room with a door or anything...

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
your house has a similar layout to mine -
i think it would be hard to make it another room - but instead of having another kitchen table there, you could have a really big living room.

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
We have a small dining room connected to the LR. We only have a dinette set in there for now that used to be in our old eat in kitchen. I dont need one right away... there are a million other things to spend money on.

This is exactly how I feel. I was just searching the net for some furniture.

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
ME!! Right now we have a pool table in there which we are trying to sell. It is beautiful if you want to go for thsi look in your home We are going to make it a reading area. We would like to get custom book shelves and some nice arm chairs for the area. we have a large kitchen that is eat-in so it was sort of repetitive to have two tables

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
I have seen this in many new homes. Instead of a dining room... they have a billiards room or a library/office.
I know sounds like a a game of clue, right?

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
no DR here.....large EIK. You could use the DR for a library/office, play room if it has access and visibility from several places.

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
I would use it as a library/media room or playroom.
We have a section of our living room that we will probably make a media/library area. Book shelves, stereo type equipment and all our CDs/albums..maybe hang some art.

Re: Does anyone NOT have dining room furniture?
If you do not have both a den and a living room, then making the dining room into a den will look fine. Otherwise, 3 living room areas might look a little funny, even if one is more of a playroom. Do what you like, though, it's your house .
