Does anyone pay for their family health insurance?
Meaning, not through a job, but on your own?
What plan do you have? How much monthly? Does it include medical, dental, eye?
Thanks

Re: Does anyone pay for their family health insurance?
I did this for a while in NY. It was HORRIBLE.
We were paying almost $1600/month for myself, my husband and our son. This was the CHEAPEST plan offered and it didn't even cover office visits!!! (so any time my toddler was sick, we had to pay OOP.. only well visits were covered). It was not good at all.

Re: Does anyone pay for their family health insurance?
We pay for our family health insurance through DH's job. We are paying $1420 a month for an HMO. If we wanted an EPO (no referrals and more control over where you go) we would have had to pay $1711 a month.
We used to get insurance through my job. When I SAH we started shopping for insurance. If we did not go through a business, we would have had to pay $4000 a month. Health insurance is really ridiculous.

Re: Does anyone pay for their family health insurance?
My job doesn't cover much for the family plan. So I am paying $357.00 a WEEK. Yeah, it's outrageous.
My agency just changed to Emblem. I used to have Oxford but they dropped our agency because they felt not enough employees were signing up for it. (Gee, I wonder why!! $$$$).
I don't really have a choice though, because DH is self-employed and I haven't been able to find a job someplace unionized where the benefits tend to be better (i.e. hospital).
In my field, if I went to someplace non-profit where they paid a big chunk, I'd be making the same I do now after I pay for our health insurance, or less.
I hate living on LI for this reason.
I feel like we get so screwed financially on our basic needs, living here.

Yep. This is why DH didn't do it. Being self-employed, he just couldn't swing that and everything else.

Re: Does anyone pay for their family health insurance?
i dont but maybe look into child health plus for your kids? if you qualify it will be cheaper for them and then maybe you can find a cheaper plan for you and your husband

Does anyone pay for their family health insurance?
I pay around $500 a month out of pocket and the company picks up the other $800 so even with a job the insurance is around $1300 a month here. Considering the cost of medical care (thanks to fraud) it unfortunately makes sense that premiums are so high. Thanks also to all the medical malpractice suits and time spent in courts.. the cost of medical mal has skyrocketed and somehow those doctors have to come up with the money for it. They are paid base values via insurance so you begin to wonder who's really at fault for our high health insurance costs... *sigh*

Re: Does anyone pay for their family health insurance?
We pay through our business. We had to join one of those "groups"?
Anyway, Oxford Liberty. Just over $1200 a month just DH & I. It's an HMO. It's OK. Need referrals for EVERYTHING. High Co-Pays, no deductible. It's just medical.
Dental we have EDP
Eyes - we have a discount through EDP for vision - it isn't much
To get the same OXford coverage Not in a "Group" it costs more than double.

We did this too with Oxford for a couple years, through the small side business we own. We chose a high deductble plan with both in and out of network coverage, no referrals, and no co-pays once you reached your deductible-- however, it was a $4K deductible. This was about two years ago, but at the time I believe it was about $1650 a month for a family plan. I'm sure it's more now.
Like the PP said, creating a "group" if you own a business vs. buying insurance on your own is a HUGE price difference!
