Re: Self employed and health insurance for family
We have a HSA a plan with a high deductible. We pay $520 a month and our deductible is $5000 a year. We've had it for 3 months and have used $88 into our deductible. If we still had our Empire plan we would have spent over $3000 in monthly bills alone PLUS a $30 copay for each of the 2 visits I took the kids to. Sooo either $3060+ or $1648. I love the HSA plan!

We have a very similar plan. I think the best way to buy affordable insurance when your self employed in Ny & Healthy Choice-the state program.

Re: Self employed and health insurance for family
I know we pay less than $1000 a month for ours. The coverage isn't great but it is fine for now - we can always upgrade if need be (knock wood).
I think its called "Smart Start" program from HIP....for small business owners.
Definitely worth a call.

We pay about $850 a month for family of 5. We have HIP. We use our own drs. It is a $30 co pay for sick visits, $50 for specialty. Have no problems with it.
