i am not totally opposed to epidurals, but i would love to go without one. did anyone take the classes for the Bradley method, or plan to?

What's the Bradley method?
unmedicated birth, no epi
they teach breathing and pain management techniques without the use of epidurals

What's the Bradley method?
it teaches you how to have a natural childbirth and understand/deal with the pain, rather than try to distract yourself from it, like lamaze teaches.
the only bad part is that it's a 12 week course.
i think i may take a different course instead that takes pieces from all three methods (lamaze, bradley and i forget the other).

Not sure what you mean by this....Lamaze teaches breathing techniques to get you through the pain I thought
But I think the class I took taught all about both unmedicated and medicated births

Re: does anyone plan on taking Bradley classes?
Some of the Bradley teachers on LI will compress the 12 classes into eight sessions, if that helps. (I knew I was turned off by the 12 sessions for Bradley vs. the one-day session for Lamaze).
DH and I took a Bradley class in Stony Brook and IMO it was the most important preparation I could do for the birth. It helped tremendously.

oh i'm just going by what the website said
i like the idea of a class that teaches you everything, like what you took.

Re: does anyone plan on taking Bradley classes?
I am using a midwife and we hired a doula. I plan on having a natural waterbirth.
But, since we have the doula I opted to not take any additional birthing classes aside from the one my midwife taught.
My doula will come to my house 2 weeks before my due date and have a 2 hour session with me and DH. She will show DH some massage techniques and me some breathing/focus techniques. Plus a lot more. So, I figured with all that any additional classes are just unnecessary.

two different techniques...hopefully the same end result = natural childbirth

But I think the class I took taught all about both unmedicated and medicated births My understanding of the 2 is that Lamaze has you focus on an object while using the (imo, odd) Lamaze tecnhique of breathing. The Bradley Method has you focus inward using a natural breathing method and directing that breathing & energy towards the pain, thus alleviating said pain naturally.
I've read up on the BM but wound up taking Hypnobirthing instead.

Re: does anyone plan on taking Bradley classes?
I wanted to take one but never got around to it. The 12 week long class would never work with my and DH's schedule. You should read "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way"

Re: does anyone plan on taking Bradley classes?
Nope. I thought about it briefly though. I realized the time commitment was too much, that I am flat out too lazy and odds are I will sell out and have me some serious DRUGS.
(Hey at least I know my limits right?)

Re: does anyone plan on taking Bradley classes?
What a coincidence that I saw this thread today. My DH and I were just discussing this last night and we wanted to look into the Bradley Method. I am not opposed to drugs BUT I would really like to make every effort to get through the labor and delivery on my own. I live in Stony Brook and I saw some of you mentioned a Bradley class here with only 8 classes...........could you FM some more info on where that was and how much? Thanks!!!
