DOes anyone think that being on BCP for any length of time made it hard for them to concieve?
Just wondering...Not TTC just yet but this has been a concern of mine. I would go off them for BCP reasons but I really need them to regulate AF...because it was really BAD before going on BCP. I have been on them for about 5 years.

It took 6 months for my cycle to regulate. If I knew it was going to take so long, I would have stopped taking it sooner. I was on it for about 3.5 years.

Kathleen.. I dont think there is any way to really know how your body is going to react once you go off of them. My BF got her period like clockwork right after she stopped and got pregnant the next month, others I know it took a few months for them to get back on schedule and then you have me.. I stopped getting my period at all. Granted, I have another problem, but if I didnt stop the pill, I wouldnt have known about it.

I was on them for 10+ years, and my cycle was normal after one month. I hope the same is for you!!! Good luck!

Not at all!
I was on the pill for something like 13 years and we got pregnant right away.
My cycle was also regular right away.

Re: DOes anyone think that being on BCP for any length of time made it hard for them to concieve?
I was on the pill for over 15 years and it took my body one month to regulate to a normal cycle. My doctor said that the length of time a woman is on the pill, has no effect on her ABILITY to conceieve. It does, however, take some people longer to REGULATE. There is a big difference. If after so many years of the pill being in existence, if oral contraception left couples without children, the pill would have been off the market ages ago.
I would venture to say that there are MANY other contributing factors that could keep a woman from getting pregnant such as: age, diet, physiology, medicines, weight (being overweight OR underweight), caffeine intake, environmental factors, illness - the list can go on and on.
Yes, I have been trying for 9 months after birth control, but my reasons for not being able to conceive thus far have absolutely nothing to do with being on the pill for so long. My cycle is like clockwork.

I have heard that it could be harder but I was on them for 6-7 years and I got PG on my 2nd month trying. I did let my body regulate for 3 months before TTCing though first.

Re: DOes anyone think that being on BCP for any length of time made it hard for them to concieve?
My sister's doctor told her that it was better that she was on the BCP for so long b/c her system was so regulated. When she came off the first time it literatlly took her a month to get prego. The second time she did it took even less time.
My sister was happy...My BIL not so much! He would have prefered a little more "trying"!

Not really concerned that it will affect the ability to conceive, but more annoyed that my cycle is irregular since I have been off it.

I agree...my aunt used/uses Norplant [sp?] and both times, after years of use, she would develop a "problem" with it and have it removed, she got pregnant within a month. Meanwhile, I've known plenty of women who took several months to get regular again and get pregnant.
On that note: I've known plenty of women who have difficulty [getting pregnant] and never used BCP at all.
In the end, each woman is different and how her body will react is unique.

I wasn't on BCP, I was on the Depo Provera shot for 5 years. It only took about 2 months to be regular (and I didn't get my period AT ALL while on Depo -- I miss that shot!)

Re: DOes anyone think that being on BCP for any length of time made it hard for them to concieve?
I didn't have any issues at all, but I was worried about it.
My doc said something like this..BCP do not cause fertility problems, but can mask some problems/cycle changes you have since they force regulation of your body and hormones. So basically, your cycle might have changed, but since you were medicated you wouldnt know it until you came off.
A friend of mine was on BCP pills forever, when she went off, she didn't get her AF for months, she was then diagnosed with PCOS, the pills were bringing her period every month cause of the reg. hormones, but without them, her PCOS surfaced causing issues with TTC.
