It might be time to see an LC. Pumping is not the same as nursing when it comes to supply and demand. It doesn't stimulate as much of a supply. Maybe if you massage a little before you start to pump you'll get the flow going a little better. Also, stress can affect your supply as well. I noticed since I went back to work I don't get as much when I pump either.
What kind of pain do you get and where? Is it a fullness/engorgement pain or something else? I had a horrible pain a few weeks after I started and it was a blocked milk duct (which also would lessen your supply).

Re: WHy am I having such a hard time with this..
I noticed that early this morning I got less when I pumped then yesterday at my morning pump, and that worried me. My pediatritan said to take "brewer's yeast" so I am going to try and pick that up soon. My mom is all bent out of shape that we're not really nursing much and one of her concerns was that my milk would dry up because she said pumping doesn't equal what a baby's sucking does.

Re: WHy am I having such a hard time with this..
I agree it might be worth seeing a lactation consultant if continuing to nurse is important to you. Because my supply never really came in full force I am supposed to pump or nurse every 2 hours to make sure my body knows to keep making more milk. Also if she only nurses a little a need to pump after to make sure my body thinks it needs to make more milk. Basically I was told that pumping is the best way to increase your supply because your body doesn't know to make more milk until what's in there gets used up. The thing that varies is that each woman's "holding capacity" is different. If that makes sense. So maybe try pumping or nursing more often and see if that helps. My LC says the goal for a normal supply is to be able to produce 1oz. every hour around the clock if you added it all up. Hope that helps a little.
