Does green poop mean he has gas or is it diarrhea?

I just changed DS and it was green loose poop. but the grossest thing was everytime I wiped him and got him clean, he would squeeze more out. It happened 6 times. I dont know if he just has a lot of gas (b/c it's green) or diarrhea now. If he has another epidsode like this I will make sure to call the dr. in the morning.

Anyone? I am getting nervous being he is only 10 days old. He doesnt have a fever. Should I give him a little water to help him stay hydrated?

Is he on formula or breastmilk?

I was told any of the "fall" colors are normal: green, brown, yellow. As long as it isn't black, dry or bloody it's probably ok


ETA: Sorry didn't realize he went 6x already. My daughter used to have days where she pooped like crazy but then we would usually skip a day after that. If he keeps on going frequently tomorrow I would give the doc a call just for piece of mind.

Formula. I am just nervous b/c he didnt poop for almost 1 1/2 days, and than when I went to change him he didnt stop pooping for almost 5 min. Maybe he was just cleaning himself out.

green poop is normal formula poop. is it runny?

I am experiencing the green poop as well and tons. Its not watery though, so it's not diahrea, it's just soft. The first week it was bright yellow.

Diarrhea will be very very watery and frequent..

It's definitely normal what your baby is experiencing! My son went from yellow poop to green (of all gross shades) within a week or two of birth. And yes, he had times where he went and went...usually it meant i changed his diaper too fast and didn't let him get it all out beforehand.

I seriously have seen all types of poop with DS, it will prob stay green from this point on. My ped. said its the amino acids in the belly breaking down everything-it turns the color green...

I agree with everyone. My DD's poop has changed colors a lot. She also has time when im changing her and more poop is coming out. I guess she didnt finish. Plus, when you hold the legs up to wipe their hineys it helps the poops come out. I guess its the same concept of trying to release trapped gas in their intestines.

DD went green a lot in the beginning. she still does now sometimes and she is 3&1/2 months. its normal

Thank you everyone. I guess I had my first mommy freak out moment. DS is fine. He hasn't pooped again since last night, so I guess he doesnt have diarrhea. I probably just didnt let him finish.

I'm glad things are better now, but I just wanted to say that my son also had this and I was told it was the iron in the formula and that it's normal
