Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
I've noticed over the last few years, more and more people forget my birthday. I am down to three cards and it's in two days. Nobody calls, nobody even sends e-cards...it's made me not like that day so much.
Is it too much to ask?

Re: Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
I used to hate my B-Day since its the day after Christmas but now I like it since I am usually surrounded by family and friends and they can't forget it.
Have a happy birthday! Maybe there will still be more to come

Yeah, I am so done acknowledging others Bdays. I got two cards this year, my mom and my MIL.

Not really. I prefer it, b/c I don't like to celebrate my bday, but I am strange...

awwww d, i haven't forgotten your birthday!! but you have a few days to wait until you get your birthday phone call!
i still get cards from 2 of my closest friends, and no one else even calls. it's upsetting. and for my first anniversary, only 2 people acknowledged it, even though i sent all my friends 1st anniv cards. oh well

Re: Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
Doesn't happen. I start announcing it like Christmas..ya know..18 more days until my birthday..etc.
I do a countdown..most of the peeps in my world get it. Others, I don't care.
as much as I loved my former boss, she never knew it was my b-day and never acknowledged it...I didn't care.

Only if it's someone important.
One year my mother totally forgot my birthday. I even called her that day and she still didn't say anything.
I was pizzed for days!! How do you forget your own kid's birthday?!
Then again, there are six of us...

Yeah. I do get upset, but then I remember that I'm pretty awful at sending birthday cards myself!

Re: Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
Certain people, I'd get upset about, others, not so much. But I'm HORRIBLE at sending cards out, so I shouldn't take it too much to heart.
My ILs however, to this day, have NO IDEA when my birthday is. I'm a little miffed about that, and I think that's justified.

I only care if it's my immediate family and one or two close friends. Otherwise, it doesn't bother me.

Yes, this year a lot of my friends forgot and I was upset, but I understand too, that they have a lot going on and I have forgotten some of theirs myself.

Re: Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
it would, especially since my brothers birthday is a week before mine and my sisters is the day after. so if my family remember theres and not mine, i'd be annoyed.

It bothers me when one person in particular forgets it. This person almost never remembers it BUT expects everyone to make a big deal out of their birthday...just amazes me

Re: Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
I expect that no one will remember it. My grandma, my only blood relative left, cannot decide if I am 21 or 30. I could not ask for her to remember the date I was born.
Some of my friends remember, some don't. Who cares? It's not like I am a little kid who is going to have a huge party at the Chuckie Cheese, if I was I would get mad, lol. Blah, getting older is not fun.

b-day's are less and less important as you get older - JMO.
but if someone close to me forgets, it would bother me.

Re: Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
I really do not care at all. I don't have high expectations so I dont get disappointed. If people happen to remember its a nice surprise. I can't worked up about it. I have more important things to worry about.

Re: Does it bother you when nobody remembers your B-day?
No. Not at all. The only people who HAVE to remembet are FH and my parents. It's nice when my brothers remember and call, too.
My one SIL throws a hissy fit if someone doesn't call her on her birthday. It was the day of my practice bar exam one year and my brother called to YELL at me because I didn't call her. (Note, I'd never called - ever - on her birthday before, and they've been together 15 years, and I was needless to say a little preoccupied) This year, I was in China on a business trip and got yelled at again by my brother for not calling. Sorry, I was 13 hours ahead, on the other side of the world, working 16-18 hours a day seven days a week with wicked jet lag. What a beyotch I am. (Mind you, I called her before I left to say happy bday since I'd be away that day) And both years I sent a card.
I find people who get *that* upset about birthdays to be a little immature. This woman is 38 years old - it's not like I missed her sweet 16. She actually makes my brother call anyone in the family who forgets. C'mon. My cousin's don't have to call my brother's wife on her birthday... JMHO.
My advice to people who get upset if someone forgets your birthday is to find a way to remind them about it beforehand. If you want people to acknowledge it, remind them a little bit beforehand. Not all of us are great with dates - and not everyone thinks a friend's birthday is a national holiday.
Or, have some sort of celebration - invite people to go out for dinner or for drinks to celebrate it.

I think your SIL takes it WAAYYYYYY too hard, and expects way too much, but I would be hurt if a close friend or relative did not acknowledge my bday in any way. My father has forgotten several times and it's hurtful. I always make a point of remembering his, and I'm not saying that I expect extravagent gifts, but I have a small family and a small group of friends and I don't think it's too much to ask them to send a card, email, or to call.
