Re: does n e one have a REALLY good sweedish meatball recipe?
Besides using the Tempo sweedish meatball mix (found in breadcrumbs aisle) I gotta tell you the BEST sweedish meatballs ever are from Ikea. Yup thats right IKEA!! In the freezers right before you check out!! I am telling you I get raves all the time. I even got MIL using them now for her parties! They even sell the sauce which is good, except I still use Knorrs brown gravy with them!!

Re: does n e one have a REALLY good sweedish meatball recipe?
This is going to sound really gross, but it's delicious...
Stir together a can of cranberry sauce (the jelly one) and an equal size can of tomato sauce. The cranberry will melt into the tomato sauce. My mom just takes little pieces of meat, rolls them into balls and cooks them in the sauce until they are finished...maybe 20-25 minutes at a medium flame? (just check on them). The sauce is yummy.

My cousin makes the sauce for her sweedish meatballs using cranberry sauce as well and they taste amazing

Re: does n e one have a REALLY good sweedish meatball recipe?
We make them 2 different ways:
One is equal parts grape jelly & chili sauce. Let ie melt together, and you can throw in your fresh meatballs to cook in the sauce, or the frozen ones to thaw.
The other one is: Equal parts ketchup and brown sugar. Same thing...melt together, and cook or thaw meatballs.
Sound kinda crazy, but they are TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree on BOTH points!! My mom always gets the IKEA ones for my cocktail party, but this year my friend made the Tempo ones, soooo good.

I also buy the meat balls from IKEA! We love them and they are the perfect size I make a sauce of 1 cup ketchup, 1 cup coke, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. After cooking the meatballs in the oven (follow the recipe on the back of the bag), drop them in the sauce. Let it all simmer for 20 - 30 minutes. YUMMY!!!!!

Re: does n e one have a REALLY good sweedish meatball recipe?
I had this at a party when DH and I went to Indiana...couldnt imagine this combo working but it was delish....Two bottles of catalina dressing, a jar of orange marmelade, 3 dashes of worchester sauce and a pinch or two of red pepper flakes. He threw that into a slow cooker with frozen meatballs and let it sit for three hours or so. I was SO not going to even try them but then I did deiish and I still cant figure out why

Re: does n e one have a REALLY good sweedish meatball recipe?
the recipes others are posting i saw for cocktail meatballs. i always thought swedish meatballs was a brownish gravy. Here's how i make mine. I stir together one can of mushroom gravy, and a container of sour cream, add a little cream of mushroom soup, maybe half a can. I stir all three together and pour over frozen or home made small meatballs and simmer for about an hour on low. Serve over egg noodles. YUMMIE!

Re: does n e one have a REALLY good sweedish meatball recipe?
this was on the southern living website
Cranberry Meatballs
Prep: 30 min., Cook: 40 min.
Yield Makes about 4 1/2 dozen
Ingredients 2 pounds ground chuck 2 large eggs 1/3 cup dry breadcrumbs 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 1/2 teaspoon thyme 1 (16-ounce) can cranberry sauce 1 (12-ounce) jar chili sauce 1/4 cup orange marmalade 1/4 cup water 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar 1 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes Preparation
Combine first 8 ingredients in a large bowl. Shape mixture into about 54 (1-inch) balls.
Cook meatballs, in batches, in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned (about 5 minutes); remove meatballs from pan, and drain well on paper towels.
Stir together cranberry and chili sauces and next 5 ingredients in a large Dutch oven over medium heat, and cook, whisking occasionally, 5 minutes or until smooth. Add meatballs; reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, 15 to 20 minutes or until centers are no longer pink.
Note: To make ahead, place cooked meatballs in a zip-top plastic freezer bag, and freeze up to 1 month. Thaw in refrigerator, and cook, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly heated.
