Does the healthcare reform bill cover infertility treatments?
This was something I was wondering. DH and I were EXTREMELY blessed that we got pregnant the first month of trying.
However, I know so many women in my life and on these boards had to go through months(sometimes years) of infertility treatments to have a baby.
How would the current bill treat those women?
I know some of you have really read quite a bit of the proposed bill. Did you come across anything on covering infertility treatments?

great question but I doubt it in it's current form.
I would love to hear if anyone knows.

I just skimmed the House bill sections where I thought it might be, but didn't see it or really any other specifics about treatments for anything.
the Senate bills may be more precise but my guess is that a lot of the specifics would be hashed out in the Administrative Ruling process.
Here is a good article on About.com that explains the Federal rulemaking/regulation process.

Re: Does the healthcare reform bill cover infertility treatments?
i doubt it... having a baby is a privledge, not a right. also, infertility usually is not life threatening to the mother. and, honestly, i hope it doesn't... i suffer from infertility, so i know first hand how heartbreaking it is. BUT, i would not want my tax money going to pay just because a woman just wants to have a baby. ( and i wouldn't want anybody else's money paying for my infertility treatments either- its my choice to try to have a child, not theirs)

Re: Does the healthcare reform bill cover infertility treatments?
it may have to compete with the private plans and some do cover some things like sonos and blood tests.
Very curious how this would turn out.
