We got the Evenflo Triumph which is comparable to Britax on Consumer Reports. I think it was $120 at BRU.

Don't worry... We probably would have gotten a Britax if we could have afforded it at the time.

That's what we got as well - it compares evenly with the Britax on safety and ease of handling in Consumer Reports

I got the Britax Marathon for both my kids, but did not buy it in the store where it sells for $269 Chat Icon I bought both mine online, for Andrew I paid $199 back in 2004 (the prices have since gone up!) and for Lauren's I paid $239 back on August of this year. I did not pay tax or shipping online, so I really saved!

Re: Does the $$$ matter with carseats?

The Britax are much more plush and comfy. Easier to install and uninstall, easier to take the seat cover off and clean, straps stay better, rarely tangle. I am happy with my Britax seats when Ive compared their use to other seats. I know people who have owned the Britax and another seat and rave over the Britax as far as ease of use. IMO $100 difference isnt that much over the life of the carseat. But...if you cant afford it at the time of purchase, so be it, they will be fine without the more expensive one. In regards to safety, there are a number of them that compare. As long as your child is safe and the seat gets good ratings in that respect, you're buying wisely.

Re: Does the $$$ matter with carseats?

The main reason I've been buying Britax, is because they are the only ones I've found that have side impact protection.

When it comes to anything safety-related for DC, I don't look at $$. I can compensate for extra money spent on safety items by buying less toys, not going out to eat, etc. There are quite a few very safe seats out there. I would try to not use cost as the primary deciding factor.

Triumph also has side impact foam that is why it is compaired to the Britax.

Re: Does the $$$ matter with carseats?

I think if you're buying a brand name they should all be safe, but the more you spend, ie. with a Britax, the more you get in terms of convenience and comfort. We have a Marathon and DH always says how easy it is to adjust, re-install, etc. My mom's is a Graco and it's safe, but a PITA to adjust and really hard - not soft and plush like mine.

Re: Does the $$$ matter with carseats?

I was told Evenflo Triumph scored better than Britax on CR, so that is what we got...cost about $130

ETA: my mother in law bought it from Albeebaby.com (Limited Edition one)

Re: Does the $$$ matter with carseats?

We have both a Birtax Marathon and the Evenflo Triumph (2nd car) and I LOVE the britax WAYYY more! The triumph is nice, but the britax is just easier to use and I love knowing that it is supposed to be the "best" out there.

Personally it's well worth the money for a seat your child will be in for years!

Re: Does the $$$ matter with carseats?

I confess I am a Britax addict! I have the Britax Decathalon for my car. DH had the Marathon for his car but DD grew out of it so we bought the Britax Parkway booster. I also bought the Britax Marathon for my mom's car.

After watching that video on the importance of the 5 point harness I am considering purchasing the Britax Regent (use up to 80lbs.) for mine and DH's car. I guess I should have bought stock in Britax!

Re: Does the $$$ matter with carseats?

we have the Britax, and also the Graco Comfortsport.

The Graco I think was $80, but I used a 20% off BBB coupon so I paid $70. It rates just as high as the Triumph.
